Real Ale Ray left this review about The Horse & Jockey

Impressive looking building with a comfortable and modern interior, gastro pub style. Three ales on handpump, Doom Bar, Black Sheep Twilighter Fresh IPA and TT Landlord. The service at the bar was slow even though the pump was half full. The majority of the staff were serving drinks through table apps, instead of leaving a least one staff member to serve people at the bar. We took our drinks to the rear patio area and on a pleasant day it was the right choice.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Horse & Jockey

Another large Ember Inns pub on a corner plot next to some traffic lights. Unlike the Crown in Four Oaks where I'd been earlier, this one was serving food and therefore was much busier, despite my 3pm visit making it a little too late for lunch. Nevertheless, I was still able to find a table.

Sharp's Doom Bar is the regular beer. Guests were Timothy Taylor Landlord, Fuller's London Pride & Northern Monk Eternal. A CAMRA discount is offered. It was good to see a slightly different beer (the Eternal) amongst the national beers. But Ember Inns still have a long way to go.

The interior was typical Ember Inns with a carpeted interior and very little in the way of decoration. Toilets can be found upstairs. If using the car park, registration details need to be entered at the bar.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Horse & Jockey

Large Ember Inns establishment with a wide variety of seating / dining areas within a slightly split-level interior. Usual sort of semi-modern furniture and decor, and very much food led (to the extent that those just looking for a drink had to stand around the bar as all tables were full of diners). Quiz nights advertised three nights per week. Fair selection of seven real ales from the ten handpumps divided between the two parts of the bar counter, of which the seasonal 'house' (Black Sheep) Snow Place like Home (£3.35) was a new one on me.

Ember Inns pub with a really good selection of real ales, nicely kept, friendly staff and clientele! Would make it worthwhile coming back to Sutton Coldfield!

Soup Dragon left this review about The Horse & Jockey

An impressive detached corner Ember Inns pub and eatery with patio area. This early 20th century looking building is in undressed brick, white render and black beam and white board in part mock Jacobean style.

As it is an Ember Inn the inside is formulaic, it is an open plan area, partitioned-up. It has sofas, comfy chairs and high stools and is set-up really for the dining experience, which of course, I didn’t take part in, so I can’t comment on that. The walls are the familiar, reds, whites, creams, browns, with some patterned wallpaper and a white ceiling. The vases are out as usual, with some mirrors and some old photos of the area, as well as of their food. Chopped wood is also placed next to the open hearth gas fires. The service was functional, probably because it was so busy as it was quiz night. I managed to watch a little footy on the TV to distract me long enough to finish my drink before getting out, as the music round on the quiz got very loud.

Beer; tap stuff, with Rev James, Brew XI, Purity Ubu and a reasonable Timothy Taylor Golden Best on handpull

Great place for those that like safe chain-owned places; I just find them dull.

Ian Taylor left this review about The Horse & Jockey

An Ember Inn owned stands on busy road that connects between Sutton and Birmingham. One of better pubs in Sutton, nice decors and quite homely. I sat down front of huge log fire and TV above me. It was very quiet because I went in just as door opened. Not good for people with weak legs, countless steps to toilets. I had bottle of Brothers Toffee Cider which is outstanding. Didn't stay here long.
