Very final beers at the end of a long day’s crawling. Somewhat whacky exterior with a two (or was it three?) roomed interior off a central bar that seemed a bit dim and ramshackle. Five cask IIRC, I tired the Purple Moose Off the Wagon (NBSS 3) and something with a paper clip from Bearwood which was good (3.5). It’s GBG’23 listed. 7.5

Although I wasn't as impressed with this pub as previous reviewers - perhaps because of coming to the end of a long day which had started at the Camra winter festival in Birmingham - but one incident stands out. I'd taken my beer and sat down to write up a few notes, when the landlord called out to me that my beer wasn't right and he wanted to replace it. He'd realised that it was at the end of the barrel, and he quickly pulled the fresh one through and gave me a replacement. To be honest, the beer was so not to my taste that I had just put it down to experience, but the fresh drink was noticeably better (though still not to my taste).

Good beer guide seems to switch between bars in Stourbridge - and some of them (the bank) don't actually last for long. The waggon and horses is a bit of an ever present, having been in for the last four editions of the GBG (at least).

Just out the city centre - its along a terrace, with a central bar surrounded by "open plan" rooms that you can duck between without going through doors.

Five real ales, plenty of ciders and a knowledgeable and friendly landlord - rare to see someone who enjoys his job and his regulars.

Salopian Oracle in good form. Baguettes and cobs available.

Called in this 2019 Good Beer Guide entry a couple of days ago and enjoyed our Dorking Black Noise and Shotover Prospect beers. Small bar at the front with a larger one at the rear which can be hired for functions. Good choice for cider drinkers too.

A traditional pub consisted of a compact front bar area, small lounge on the right and a rear lounge. There was a choice of six ales on handpump, mostly from local breweries, plus a couple from further afield. We went for the Enville and Church End Goat's Milk, both of which were in good shape. The pub had a relaxed atmosphere and all seating areas were comfortable.

If the builders came in & looked to modernise tour traditional back street local this could be how you would hope it would end up. Nice modern take giving it life & personality, 3 rooms, the one side room has a frontage opening on to the street in nice weather. Larger back room.

Enville ales

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Waggon & Horses

Some temporary scaffolding took the shine off the external appearance of this revitalised establishment on my visit, but this certainly didn't extend inside. That said, the semi-modern refurbishment won't necessarily appeal to the traditionalist, but the three-room layout around the central servery is appealing enough. Seven real ales available on handpump from the 'main' (as in small) bar, including three from Enville - Ale, Ginger and Simpkiss Bitter (£3.00) - and other local offerings, plus four draught ciders in the side 'lounge'. Worth seeking out.

It would seem that this was originally a Banks's / Hanson's pub. It has been refurbished to a high standard with brand new wooden flooring (not the cleaned and varnished floorboards normally seen). There is a small bar at the front left where all the locals seemd to be congregated (and blocking the bar). After being served I retired to the quieter bar on the right which also leads through to a back bar. There are shelves in this bar holding what looked like a DVD library. I didn't enquire further about them.
There were six beers on offer, three from Enville, Ale, White and Ginger, Old Swan Entire, Kinver Edge and Bay's Summer Ale.
I went for the Enville Ginger (£2.90) which was in fine condition and really tasty. I liked this one a lot and would recommend it.

UPDATE: Closed and re-opened under its former name. The cafe and restaurant areas have been converted back to 'pub' style rooms with old photos and a coffee and brick decor. Enville Ale, Ginger and White were on as well as Holden's Golden Glow, Pardoe's Entire and another. Even better in my opinion.

Formerly the Wagon & Horses, this place is now a self-styled freehouse and cafe bar. It is in fact an amalgam of pub, restaurant and cafe, as it opens from 11am and serves meat-free food until 9pm. It is a sister-place to the Irish-themed Katie Fitzgeralds also in Stourbridge. The pub is in a light render (getting dark so i couldn't tell and i am sure you won't lose sleep over it) with the lower half in a stucco effect. It has red paintwork, signage and awnings, with a few black pilasters.

The interior has three rooms that i saw. To the right on entry is the cafe, which i didnt really see other than it had a wood floor, red wallpaper, with white flowery pattern and cafe styled seats, as well as a big jukebox. At the back of the place is the restaurant, which has a wood floor and a lot of exposed brick , yellow high backed chairs with swirly patterns and bistro art. The main 'pub' room is to the left on entry. It is an L-shaped room, curving around the serving bar and is in the same red wallpaper, with white flowery pattern on it, along with exposed brick and some wood panel. It has a green ceiling and a tartan patterned carpet. A few arty and music pictures adorn the walls and the music was mixed and at a decent level. The service was fine. I didn't see a TV.

Beer; usual tap stuff with Ansells MILD. On handpull there was Kelham Island Easy Rider, White Rose Stairway to Heaven, Abbeydale Absolution, Three Tuns Bishops Castle and Pictish Brewery one that I failed to note (Aflay?). The Stairway to Heaven was decent.

The cafe, pub and restaurant combination, along with the decor means that personal taste (a traditionalist) means I struggle with it. The beer and choice is great. Those that don’t have hang-ups on the environment I am sure will love it, and I am sure I can push such feelings aside to re-visit!

A mix of styles in this 3-roomed free house: pine to the right; tartan carpet to the left; and a larger room laid out for dining towards the rear.

Pump trouble when I visited meant that only 3 of the 6 were in use; hopefully that's sorted now. The pub is an outlet for the local Enville Brewery, so I opted for a fine Enville Ale.

The barman was chatty and informative when I visited (he may also have been bored due to the lack of custom, of course).

Recommended if you're in town, particularly if they can get those handpumps working again.
