Now back open after a refurb. None of the old "grandmothers living room" now, all very smart and modern. No ales, best bet was Atlantic Pale amongst the fizzy kegs.

This place has hardly changed over the years. It is very old fashioned - a bit like your grandmothers living room. No real ale so I had a Bass which was only OK.
Better options nearby.

A poshish hotel with bar and dining open to non-residents, decorated in standard 1950s hotel style that is beamed with prints of old paintings, plates and traditional furnishing upholstered with material showing a medieval hunting scene. A big carvery stand takes up a bit of space at one end of the bar which rather spoils the look of the place. As Soup Dragon says only a limited range of keg beers in an unfortunate echo of the past. One for the maiden Aunts, in fact I'm sure I saw a couple of them in there having luncheon.

This is a fantastic looking terraced former Georgian coaching-house that is now a hotel, restaurant, bar and so forth. There is a rear patio area. The hotel is in brick, with sash and bow windows, with white quoins, a pedimented doorway and a coach entrance with white keystones.

The interior has several areas, as it is a hotel. The bar is a slight dog-leg shaped room in cream and wood panel, with some red and red patterend wallpaper. There is a fireplace and a few statues dotted about, along with brasses and old photos and prints on the walls. The serving bar is half-way up on the left. There are high stools and sofas, so we headed outside. Despite having restaurant rooms, you can eat here (i didn't so cant comment on that) There was no music and a TV was on showing the Wimbledon final. The service was fine and there was one guy in, watching the TV.

Beer; no real ale, all keg stuff - Had Bass smooth and a decent enough Guinness.

Nothing for the real ale drinker, one for the people that like the comfy sofa feel. Happy enough i stopped by, its just not to my personal taste.
