Having "pilgrimaged" to all the Bathams Pubs (of which, there is one just around the corner from here), I thought I would make a start on all the Holdens.

This is a locals pub not far from Stourbridge Junction Train Station. Central bar, with knocked through rooms running around the outside.

Beers (Golden Glow, Bitter and chosen Special) in fine condition. Cobs in a chiller.

Sat and admired the locals, as I often do as a solo traveller. The old fella wearing in line rollerskates took the eye. Especially when he left the high bar stool for a ciggie.

A small modernised Holden's pub, a knock-through J shape. Fairly bland but cosy and there were a few comedy punters in (random conversation sample “you know how to tell the difference between the Japanese and the Koreans…? The Koreans have Korean names”). Three Holdens ales on, Bitter (NBSS 4), Special and Gold. Cobs available and World Cup footy on the box. A tidy local with good beer.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Shrubbery Cottage (The Shrub)

A good traditional locals pub, where we got great help from one of the locals, who was sitting at the bar when we were choosing a Holden's ale. There was a choice of five ales across five handpumps on our visit. I particularly liked the Hopden Ale 4.9%, which slipped down easily. Well worth a visit for a good welcome and the condition of the beers.

This is a very good locals pub, the type of pub that in a lot of towns would be keg only, but in Stourbridge they've stuck with the real ales. This one is a Holdens pub, with Mild, Bitter and Golden Glow available. The blackboard behind the bar seems to suggest that Special and Old are also available from time to time. All beers are priced sensibly, and my bitter was in excellent condition.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Shrubbery Cottage

I was looking forward to visiting this Holden's pub but unfortunately found it to be something of a disappointment... Nothing really wrong with the refurbished 'U'-shaped with fairly light furniture and decor, but it somehow seemed to have an unwelcoming atmosphere. Rather poor choice of just Black Country Bitter, Golden Glow (£3.10) and Black Country Special from three of eight handpumps, although to be fair the quality was excellent.

This is a small single room pub split into various different areas surrounding the bar. I imagine it would have once had a public and saloon bar. It also has a reasonable sized car park and a garden.
It's at the end of a fairly small terrace but most of the housing around (especially just to the West) consists of large detached piles which
probably explains why the Black Country bitter at £2.80 was more expensive than some of their other houses. Also being served were the Special and Golden Glow together with Thatcher's Heritage Cider.
It's not one of Holden's best but is a good solid local boozer and three out of the four possible Holden's beers on offer isn't bad.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Shrubbery Cottage

A small, yellow rendered Holden's pub, with patio area. The interior has a U-shaped room, around a central serving bar. The decor has brown and coffee walls, with some wood panel, and carpet. There is a small bar area where there is a dart board, which has trophies on display and some sporty photos on the wall; otherwise, the walls had modern arty pictures and bits of patterned wallpaper to create some sort of feature. There was no music, as the TVs had Sky Sports and horse racing on. The service was fine and it was quite busy with a mixed crowd. Beer; Holden's Bitter, Golden Glow and Special. The Glow and particularly the bitter were on excellent form, sadly, no MILD! A nice, if modern feeling pub, again, one to visit and one i will return to.
