Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The White Lion

Upmarket village pub and restaurant in three parts: a cosy traditional bar directly ahead of the front door, a separate lounge area to the left with its own door off the entrance lobby and the main dining rooms in a rear extension. Landlord, Proper Job, Wye Valley HPA (£4.90) and Otter Bitter from four of the six handpumps.

Nice 17th-century village pub as described by Soup below. The public bar at the front is the best bit, pity the fireplace was used to store logs (and I mean store, not laid ready for lighting) rather than act as a fire. If it did it might remove the lingering odour of chips. Things go upmarket as you proceed clockwise through the building with a comfy enough lounge, then a fancier dining room at the back.

Beers as at RAR's visit, the Hobson's, though pleasantly served, was not at its best.

As a pub it's typical of the genre and stands out from the many corporate abominations in the area. Certainly worth a look if you are visiting the nearby NEC.

We called in here for Sunday Lunch, which was very good and the staff were very friendly and chatty. We had a beer in the front bar beforehand and the handpulled beer choice was Proper Job, Bank's Mild, Bath Gem, Wye Valley HPA and Hobsons Bitter. We went for the Proper Job, which was in great condition. From this small bar, area you take a left into the lounge area, which was long and narrow and this room led you into the rear dining area. The pub became increasingly busy around 12.30, as a wedding party arrived in from the church across the road, which was nice to see everyone dressed in their finery.

A detached white rendered cottage style pub, that has a restaurant and does accommodation. It has a small patio at the front and a beer garden at the back.

The interior has three rooms. The bar is small, with a Tv in the corner and is in cream and brick with a few bits of brass ephemera and beamed ceiling. The lounge is a long room to the side. Also in cream with beams; it has a mix of settles and comfy chairs, with a few prints of hunting scenes and maps on the walls. There is also the restaurant, which is light and airy and slightly more modern looking - i did not try the food. The service was very friendly, as were the good mix of locals, when i popped in to have a real ale and 5 mins to myself while being best man at a wedding at the church over the road!

Beer; tap stuff, with Brew XI, Adnams Bitter and Black Sheep Bitter on handpull. All three were fine - only small gripe would be that i would want a little more variety.

All in all, a lovely place and well worth a visit - it is in the GBG 2010
