The carpark was full of top of the range 4X4's,Mercs and a pale blue Bentley which tells all you need to know about this place.Inside the open kitchen is to the right, the decor is bright and modern, straight ahead is the bar while opposite there is a vast sofa and then a section in a conservatory with tables that arent laid so you can drink here, although diners will also be amongst you. Then a section of laid tables before a door to a huge awning under which there are dining tables but also some faux wicker furniture ,each with a table number.A more traditional beer garden then follows.
The two handpumps are tucked away to one side and were offering Doom Bar and TT Landlord (£6 as you might expect,NBSS 3).I was just in for a beer but did squint at the menu, you wont pay much less than £20 for a main and you will need to buy some sides. It would be easy to rack up a meal for 2 at £100,I didn't dare look at the wine list.
Would I repeat the very stiff 10 minute uphill walk from the canal.Hell,no!

Essentially a fancy (well it thinks it's fancy, menus without pound sign, you get to know the symptoms) restaurant/hotel in a modern looking building on a semi-rural crossroads. There is a somewhat sterile bar area, comfortable enough but meant more, I suspect, as a waiting area for those 'dining with them'. Shoved up a corner as an afterthought are a couple of handpumps clipped for Doombar and Atlantic. Oh my what a surprise. I stuck to what their website calls "larger", which was, of course, ambitiously priced and, I'm afraid, gruffly served. The huge car park suggests it's popular with the 4x4 owning classes come the weekend.

Walk on by.
