The centre of Solihull is sadly lacking in any pubs of character and after experiencing all the shop conversions at one end of the High Street and the lounge bar cafes in the middle I was hoping that the Masons Arms at this end of the High Street would be that place.
Well it was close and at least it’s a proper pub. Will agree with the comment below that it doesn’t have a great deal of character, especially in the larger room to the right with the dominating tele,but the bar room to the left was comfortable enough.
Three hand pumps on the bar but only two in operation with Doombar and a passable TT Landlord. A chalk board in this area does proclaim that the Pub invites you to the wonderful world of craft beer, but before you get too excited for the Masons Arms this means Camden Hells and Pale Ale and Brew Dog Punk IPA and Lost Lager.
A few tables out the front and then a garden area out the back that was closed for some reason on my visit. I think the expression goes , close but no cigar.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Masons Arms
Traditional-looking inn but comprehensively refurbished inside so almost all character has now been lost. The partially opened-out interior retains two bars and a variety of seating / dining areas, but the light semi-modern furniture and decor adds little to the experience. The number of over-loud sports TVs showing some dull football hardly helped either. Also has some patio tables out front. Greene King IPA, Pride, Sharp's Atlantic (£2.85) and Old Rosie cider available from the various handpumps divided between the two counters.

A pub of two halves, the area to the left when you go in is loungey with comfy chairs and lots of wood, the larger area to the right serves as a loud trendy pre-club modern youngster area.
Its a little bit tacky and has been living off clubbers for some time without too much effort, but on my visit at 10pm on a Saturday night possibly showed signs of the better years being behind it - it was no where near full like I have seen it on past visits. A sign of people drinking more at home as a warm up or maybe a one off I don't know. It at least made it easy to find a seat and have a drink.
Apparently serves as a coffee house during the day, which I can believe with the beams & its position near the town centre

A large, white rendered, town centre terraced pub, that has some external character.
The interior was pretty crowded when i visited, with a mixed clientele. I could only see one large open plan area that went around the central bar. The walls are in various colours, as is usual these days, with beams and supporting beams, giving some character to the interior as well. There was Sky TV, comfy chairs and old photographs on the walls. Service was functional, due to it being busy.
Beer; tap stuff, with an OK M&B MILD, there were handpull beers, but couldn't see what they were, so i went with the MILD as i wasn't queing.
The place had a bit of feel, but is still large and a little soulless. Having just been ripped off by The George Hotel for three bottles of Peroni, i had kind of just had enough of Solihull town.
