Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Pheasant
Large 'sports bar & grill' serving the 1930s housing estates on the southern edge of Oldbury and Smethwick. Painted in dark battleship-grey, with rather extraordinary bile green external lighting. Unusual central tower with numerous seating / dining / games areas in an overall 'L' shape around the central bar. 1980s furniture and slightly bilious decor, but all tidy enough, and doing reasonable business from the Indian food menu in the early evening. Unfortunately, despite the up-to-date Cask Marque plaque by the entrance, none of the three handpumps was operational during my visit. So, inevitably, it was a quick John Smiths (£2.10) before I headed off.

This is a detached pub, with patio area. The pub is built over a Victorian pub of the same name. The pub then was rural. The new pub was built in the 1930s, to accommodate the rising population brought by the massive housing developments. The pub is interesting and is in white render. It has a central tower, with the rest of the pub being of two storeys, the upper windows of which being Roman. The side extensions have Dutch scrolls and it has a mansard roof. The interior has a massive L-shaped room, which has a mix of beer posters and a couple of ary prints on the wall. To the left, where there are comfy seats, is an area with a pull- down screen and a TV or two. There is a pool table off to the right, as well as a couple of dart boards and yet more TVs - all showing the footy. The decor is coffee, red and white. There are a number of sofas too - looking a little out of place in a more sport bar environment. The nicest and most unusual feature is the stained glass skylight in the darting area. The place has a foody feel, due to its size, but doesn't actually do food. The service was fine and the clientele locals - although due to its size it felt a little empty. Beer; no real ale - usual tap stuff with M&B MILD and Davenports lager. I had a shandy. Nothing for the real ale fan, just a place to go for a swifty to look at the building if you are so inclined.
