Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Summerhouse

Village pub of the 'country dining' variety, with a relatively small bar in the centre, a slightly raised dining area to the right and 'The Old Bar' restaurant to the left. Traditional furniture and decoration throughout. Very surprisingly for such a place, just one handpump, and that's not been used since the Covid-19 pandemic apparently (although there seem to be vague plans to reintroduce real ale this summer). Made do with a Banks's Original mild (£5.00 with a packet of peanuts), with Wainwright and Marston's Smooth also noted on some of the other keg taps.

I suspect this was a Georgian farmhouse, much extended over time, that became a beerhouse under Thomas Fereday (a farmer of 36 acres) sometime between 1830 and 1850. Anyhow, the irregular shaped building, with a random Dutch gable, has both a front patio and a rear garden area. The interior has two rooms that I saw, but both were set up for food with the 'bar' being lightly less twee than the fake beam lounge - twee in an 80s way. The pictures in the two-level lounge were a bit arty and there were some mirrors. I occupied one of a couple of seats that wasn't set up for food. The service was good and the clientele were, well, eating. I saw no TV and the music was a decent level. The only real ale pull I saw was Wainwright and that was turned round, so I had a keg Banks's MILD which was OK for one. Really a food place (well, a least at a lunchtime)

Large independent family pub - with two outdoor seating areas - one at the rear with fine views over the Staffordshire countryside and childrens playground.

Never made it inside - as dogs are not allowed.

In this covid world - it was all table service and the three servers (who we saw) did seem run ragged. Food time was an hour - which is well on the cusp on when should we start making inquiries. The girls serving were very friendly though - so we just needed to show patience.

In terms of Ales - it was a straight choice between Bitter and Mild... from which brewery, I asked further. I should have guessed Banks!
