This was my first visit to this place. It was part of one of my Friday Black Country crawls by minibus. 10 of us arrived just before midday and waited outside for it to open. The gaffer said we should have come around the back. He took an interest in where else we were going and very kindly made us some bowls of chips with a pot of curry sauce. He went out before we left and wished us a good day on our crawl. I made no mention of the fact that I was a regular PG Reviewer so his welcome was genuine. We did 9 pubs on our crawl but that kind of friendliness stuck in my mind.
Aside from the welcome, I really liked the place – a two roomed traditional pub half way up the steep slope of Waterfall Lane. I hope my photos capture it well enough. I’ve done this kind of thing before. I have started a crawl with a new pub and really liked it and felt comfortable enough to stay for longer. What it does mean is that I will definitely be back.
The bar is not very big so the selection of real ales is split between the front room and the back room so look out for the blackboard in the bar area giving the full list.
A Holden’s pub so cask ales included Holden’s Special and Golden Glow, Enville Ginger and Batham’s Best Bitter. Beer heaven.

A detached cottage-styled Holdens pub in white render with a patio area. It has been in the GBG over the last few years, i think.
The interior has a couple of room that are connected by a green and white passage that is adorned with all kinds of bits and pieces. The two rooms are served by a central serving bar area. The front room is in red and cream, with a wood ceiling and a brick fireplace. Victorian prints and lots of hanging jugs give the place a traditional feel. The bar room is behind and is in blue and white artexy kind of finish, with fake wall beams. It is an L-shaped room, with a dart board and also has the prints on the walls. There were a couple of TV's, none were on and there was no music. The service was friendly and they do food - which i found decent and quite cheap. They also do an array of cobs and things. The clientele was completely mixed on the several occasions i have been in and it is always pretty busy.
Beer; some tap stuff, but Holden's Bitter, Special and Golden Glow (Why no MILD????), as well as several guests; Enville Ale, Pardoe's Bumblehole, Bathams Bitter and Sarah Hughes Ruby MILD being on offer. The Bathams, Hughes and Bumblehole were on top form
What a choice of beer and really well kept; decent food, service and a nice environment - the only problem, for a misery like me, is that it is too popular and i have had to stand before now.

Nice homely pub, great local Ales along with some guests from further afield. Food is good, a bit limited in choice, but adequate. Very friendly atmosphere, i would place it as one of my favourite pubs, as it offers everything the beer drinker could want.

Excellent real ales. Good basic food at reasonable prices. Furnishings basic but comfortable. Friendly atmosphere. In winter the open fire in the lounge can get a little overpowering but don't worry as pub frequented by retired Firemen. Car parking alongside pub & a beer garden at the rear.

Great pub now owned by Holdens but also stock guest beers. A good uphill walk from Old Hill station to work up your thirst!
