Called in to this Sizzling Greene King pub when it opened today so it was very quiet. 2 beers on were Abbot and Spooky Old Hen which had a made up pump clip. Both beers tasted ok. Massive open plan room with pool table and dart board at one end.

A John Barras chain pub/eatery with patio area. It is a modern build, in mixed coloured brick. It may take its name from the malthouse that stood on the site in Victorian times, or the corn mill over the road, near the Vine. The interior is a massive open-plan area, set-up mainly for dining, although there is both a pool table and dart board. It is in red, white, green, coffee, with an open roof in parts,a couple of fireplaces at least and mixed seating. There are some nice old photos, but the place remains soulless, as these places do. We did eat here, and the food was fine for this kind of place. There was motor bike racing on the TV and the music came from the jukebax at a decent level. The service was fine and the clientele were the Spoon's kind of mix, and mainly drinking. Beer; usual tap stuff, with an OK Doombar and Spitfire on handpull. A place for cheap snap, but real ale drinkers, in general, would head elsewhere.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Corn Exchange

Low, fairly modern, corner building, with a bit of a beer garden (and some frankly dodgy-looking customers) out front. However, once inside, you find a more family-type pub than one might expect. Lots of food offers from a standard Spirit menu. Various seating areas, and two pool tables. Somewhat to my surprise, Old Speckled Hen was available on handpump so I had a quick half (£1.35) before making my way back to the Vine.

oh my god. had a right nightmare at this pub last nite!! had couple of drinks there and left car to explore other local pubs only to come back and find that barriers had been put up in car park so could not drive off!! there was no warning of this and after trying to wake up the owners(or residents) of the flat upstairs failed to do so. there were lights on upstairs and no answer! decided to try beepin on horn a few times and still no answer! phoned local police to b told that they could not assist and so resorted to beepin horn and phoning the pub. still no good and annoyingly the people upstairs decided to turn out their lights!! total ignorance and was miles from home so not impressed, luckily had somewhere to stay for night or wld have cost a fortune to get home! PLEASE BE AWARE AND DO NOT GET CAUGHT OUT LIKE MYSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loud, brash and uninviting. Ale has been substituted for fizzy lager served from gaudy bar taps. The only thing this place has going for it is that it is at the top of Delph Road, and The Vine (The Bull&Bladder, the Batham's Brewery tap house) is only 50 yards away. Take the walk over.
