Had a very enjoyable evening in this pub which has a very good menu and specials such as curry night with drink, or deserts for £2 if ordered with the main meal. Enjoyed mt Stonehenge Eye Opener beer, and there were 2 regular and 3 guest ales on. Extremely busy on Thursday, and a quiz started up after most had finished dining. The quiz was popular with a number of teams taking part, so I would say it is a good community pub.

Above was my 2011 review, and we went after covid lockdown on 16.4.21 to the outside garden at the front of the pub.
There are a number of bookable "sheds" and standard outdoor seating in the garden area at the front, and also seating at the rear which I didn't see. All covid regs applied, and served at table but we had to get the Ember Inns app as they only tookthe order and payment on that app. We had Black Sheep Twilighter and Francescan Well Chieftain IPA. The Black Sheep was fine but the Chieftain was far too cold and fizzy to be enjoyable.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Red Lion

Attractive, stone-built Ember Inns pub / restaurant in the Tudor style. Two large rooms served by the central counter, with the main bar in the front part and the back section being the principal dining area. Anonymous modern furniture, but the decor is a bit more traditional. Also has a pleasant front beer garden. Fair selection of real ales from a total of five of eight handpumps: the 'house' pale ale, Brakspear Bitter, Purity Pure UBU, Sharp's Two Tides and West Berkshire Good Old Boy. Went to the folk club upstairs here a few times decades ago, and I was pleased to see that this is going strong by the look of the notices by the entrance.

A neat looking, detached, mock-Tudor style Ember Inn, in stone, with patio.

The interior is of course modern and set up for food, as it's an Ember, so a strong clash with the exterior. It is open plan, encompassing the central bar area. The decor is the same as any other Ember; red, green, clay, cream walls, some painted wood panel, though there are beams here, along with a stone fire place with a stove in it. The usual vases, arty pictures, twigs and chopped wood are there as well, but a few old photos of the area are scattered about. There was a TV with Sky Sports News on. The music was mixed and at a decent level, the service was good and the clientele, at my visit, maturer and generally dining.

Beer; tap stuff, with Brew XI, Purity UBU, Leeds Best and a decent enough Thwaites Tale Wagger.

I am not a general fan of Embers, but this is as good as they will get for me - everything fine apart from the decor inside (i am a traditionalist!). If you like the Ember style, you should be happy here
