This pub lived up to my expectations after reading the reviews on here. Huge range of ales, absolutely packed, TV at the end of the bar listed the ales, tap number, brewery, price (wide range from £2.60 up to over £3) and something I'd never seen before, an A - E scale of colour, HPA from Wye Valley being a double-A. Only downside - it was absolutely roasting! So hot we could only stay for one drink before heading out the back door and into the OJS which backs onto it.

Great pub for the ticker with it's 12 changing guests plus the 4 standard beers. What can you say about this place that hasn't been said before? Not much is the answer. Needless to say the beer was great as usual I had a ABC Birmingham Standard, a Coastal Weird Beards No 1 (I think there were at least 4 weird beards in the pub) and a Wold Top Voluptuous Vicky. It's still a top pub with great service.

Outstanding choice of ales - often from smaller local microbreweries. Friendly staff. Does get very busy - usually for most of the day - which is a good thing these days! Also holds regular beer festivals. On the flip side even allowing for it being Birmingham City Centre the pints are sometimes fairly steep. Very occasionally you get a not so brilliant beer which is understandable given how many beers they get through - when i was there Joe the barman changed no fewer than 4 beers in the space of 30 minutes. To say he was a little tired would be an understatement! Would still recommend people visit when in area. Long live the success of "The Welly"

Great place, and is always on my City Centre list. 15 ales, with the Black Country Ales as three residents, leaving 12 rotating guests. It can get very busy, and can get noisy. None of this is due to music, however, just conversation. Food is NOT available, but bring in a takeaway and they'll supply plates, cutlery and condiments. Parking is an issue as it's either on-street in the one-way system (miss a space & round you go again) or in the railway Multi Storey at Snow Hill or New Street. Evening on-street parking is free, though, so it's worth hunting a bit further afield. Never mind the tickers and the bellies - it's about the beer!

I'd like to say something nice about this place, which would be unusual for the city centre. Well, here goes. Wow! For the last 2 years they have sold at least 2000 different real ales a year. Hold their own beer festivals. As well as UK brews you will also see some from Belgium. Usual city centre prices - expected as only a few minutes from New St & Snow Hill railway stations. Who cares about food, nobody ever seems to as this is definitely a drinkers pub for people of all ages. Crowded, cramped, sometimes noisy. I've met people from all over the country in this place, most enjoy the atmosphere. The loo is tiny. On street, metered, parking only so leave the car at home and go by train. Do I go, yes, travel 50 miles 4 times a year.

2 roomed single bar. 15 real ales on tap at any one time(1264 real ales sold this year to 20/06/07)and not a sign of a SPARKLER!! opens 10.00-midnight 7 Days a week, you can even bring your own food they supply the plates and cutlery what more could you ask for in this gem of a pub. Note the unique ordering system of the list of real ales it's all done on a monitor screen with the name of the brewery,ale name,ABV and price. very friendly staff.
The Guv' used to have the STAG in Bloxwich, This pub is for the "Pot Bellied" SERIOUS REAL ALE DRINKER. A gem not to be missed

Not a bad pub with an ever changing array of guest beers. Just a shame that it's normally full of 'beer tickers' wearing sandals, beards and beer bellies! No food is offered but you are more than welcome to bring your own
