UPDATE: This pub has now re-opened after a closure
*************************************************************************
(Jan 2010) A corner pub, mainly in red (too dark to see render colour) and about the only one left in Summer Lane.

The interior has two rooms, with a lounge in green and white, with a big screen for footy etc when needed and a bar in blue and white, with a couple of TVs for footy and some dance thing the other night. There is also a pool area. There are a number of photos on the walls of old pubs and Brum, so good marks for decor. The service has always been fine and there is a mixed clientele. Background music was mixed and a decent level.

Beer; all tap stuff with a fair to good M&B MILD - sadly, no real ale.

The Ansells at the Globe is perhaps a better pint overall, but this place has always had a friendlier feel. When doing a Barton Arms or Hockley trip it often features as a solid performer - would go up further if it had real ale.

The Stags Head had a make shift sign outside saying under new managment.
The pub was closed and looked to me like i wont open for a while.
I will leave it up to the locals to decide if this pub is closed or not.

I have no idea where the first person was drinking but it wasn't the Stags & if it was, it would have been previous to the current owners. I have been using this place for a while & I must say it is one of the best pubs I have been in & I have travelled: Australia, Outer Mongolia, Alum Rock etc.. It has some of the nicest people on the planet (and some not from this planet) as it's customers. It has a real 'local' feel while still being welcoming to 1st time users. This pub has top-of-the-league Pool & Domino teams captained with incredible efficiency by a guy that should manage England! Never have I had to return a drink for poor quality since the current owners (known locally as Prof & Mazzazzazazazzazzazazaa) took over.

I recently started a new job in the Summer Lane area, and due to my love of pool i persuaded a few of my colleagues to join me after work at the nearest pub for a friendly game of pool and a beverage. The Stags Head was round the corner, so there we headed. The atmosphere was placid and polite with a real sence of community. We now visit The Stags Head every Friday after work, and are welcomed with open arms. The food was just what we were looking for, and the pool table is well looked after. This pub should be at the top of any body's list.

I was visiting the area and felt like half a larger and a plate of chips. The Stags Head was the first pub i came across. When i entered the pub i was overwhelmed by the hospitality and the standard of service. During my visit i was captivated by the friendly atmosphere and traquil music. i would recommend this pub to any one visiting the area, and will definatley return in the future.
