Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Eagle & Ball

Externally attractive pub now somewhat dwarfed by the shiny, new Birmingham City University buildings (and it's now run by the Students' Union). Both the corner bar and side lounge have modern furniture and light decoration; pleasant enough, but the overall effect is plainer than I expected. I also thought that I might find some real ale, but no sign of any handpumps on the counter. Had a quick keg Sharp's Atlantic (£3.70) before moving on.

Well Mr Soup Dragon, Oh ye of casting aspersions against our fine city planners and developers. Now reopened, a traditional building saved from the adjoining new developments of Southside & the sreation of a new learning quarter and uni buildings (the pubs toilets are actually in the attached new university building).

Modernised inside the bar room has wooden floors but otherwise kitted out with a metal bar with wood strips on the front & bench seating. Blue walls. Clean but slightly cheap looking. There are two mall TV screens that were showing music videos on my visit.

There is a small side bar thats currently very plain but with a fire place, there is a nice corridor area with seating, a glass fronted court yard with the old 'Moby Dick' pub sign as well as two plain but fine traditional rooms upstairs. Also some outside seating at the front.

Its very much a students pub, there were groups of youngsters together, many had laptops plugged into the various sockets, the chap after me enquired 'whats the cheapest drink you have?' (for reference, it was the Carling) and the staff are a little underwhelming and naive. It makes for a lively, nice little boozer/students union and compliments the nearby Woodman in an area of very few pubs/bars.

Two handpulls, only one in operaton selling a decent enough Sadlers Peaky Blinder. There was also a pump clip for Sadlers Red IPA on the keg tap, so not sure about this.

The building is currently almost inaccessible, accessed either via the main uni building or a small alley made from boards separating the adjoining continued development from the pub.

This pub is still there - the whole of the surrounding area has been flattened for redevelopment, but this pub has been saved as it is listed - it will, i assume, reopen when the redevelopment is complete (yes, in another 20 years!).
