This is a detached Scream chain pub, with a patio area, part covered, with a pool table. Most of the Victorian Franchise St lies under Birmingham City University (Perry Barr Poly to those of us that remember pre-Thatcher days). This street once housed Perry Barr Brewery. The pub was built in the 20/30's, when the area was developing. I seem to remember it being called the Wellhead back in the 80s. It is in red brick, with a full length bay window at the front, along with white and black beam gables. The interior has lost its old rooms, although the snug to the side can be made out (with its green bench seats and former hatch area). It is now an L-shape, being in cream and black, with mainly a wood floor and brown ceiling. The far end has tables for food, it does cheap meals. There is a pool table. The walls have a few mirrors and a few actor pictures. The TVs had silent news and the music was pretty loud, but mixed - not surprising as the clientele is all students (except me!). The service was friendly. Beer; usual taps tuff with Abbot Ale on handpull. I just had a shandy, which was fine. One for the students, but I have been in far worse student venues. I forgot to add that this place also has a photo booth - possibly so you can remember who you pulled the night before!
