This is a detached GBG pub with a beer garden, aviary and animal cages. Whatever the origins of the pub, and it looks like a former farm turned pub, it is certainly a pub by the later Victorian period. It is in white painted brick, with the entrance to the side in what looked like the former cottage-style frontage. The interior has an open lounge area, with two rooms, in white and with prints on the walls, that seemed to be set-up for dining. We didn't eat so can't comment on the food. The main lounge is in white, with a coffee and wood beam ceiling and a mix of carpet and wood floor. There are a couple of brick fireplaces showing where former rooms used to be. There are wood bench seats (with usual tables and chairs) and a TV with the silent news on. The music was general and soft. The walls had all the traditional trappings; hanging brasses, prints and mirrors, with plates and other ornaments. There are a couple of stuffed animals, too. The service was fine and the clientele seemed to be a few mixed regulars. Beer; usual tap stuff with M&B MILD, along with the following handpulls; Castle Rock Harvest Pale Ale, Doombar, Pedigree, Abbot Ale and tasty Timothy Taylor Landlord. A really traditional country pub feel to this one, added to by the zoo at the back! If I had to pick a fault it would be that three of the beers are very ubiquitous and that is unfair - I could stay here for hours, most definitely worth a visit, or two.

Tucked out of the way this is lovely country inn in a very quiet setting.

There are a couple of bar areas and then an open plan lounge which is a little old fashioned but quirky, lots of beams and traditional fittings. There is a garden at the rear with some caged animals - bunnies, guinea pigs, chipmunks.

Not sure about the stuffed animals though

An ok menu, the food was good if not exceptional, functional good home made stuff.

5 real ales, including a guest, Landlord, Brains Bitter etc. The quality of the beer was superb.
