Andy Ven left this review about The Craven Arms

I popped in here during a midweek lunchtime. It’s just a short walk out of the side door of the Mailbox and offers an alternative to the trendy bars by the canal.

I was initially drawn by photos of the exterior and the inside did not disappoint. I found a single room, perhaps not quite as big as I had imagined for a corner pub. Whilst it appears to have undergone a refurb in recent years the décor and upholstery remained traditional, with comfortable red leather seating.

There were two flat screen TVs, one showing a daytime soap and the other a music channel but with the sound right down. A sign on the chimney breast advertised that Saturday night is karaoke night. Like Soup D, I found the barmaid to be pleasant and friendly.

I didn’t eat, but chicken and mushroom pie with wedges and veg appeared to be decent value on the board at £4.95.

The beer: Carling, Guinness, Stella, Peroni and Strongbow. On handpull there was Jennings Cocker Hoop, Pedigree and my choice, Hobgoblin. My drink was served a little bit too cold but it would be picking flies to be critical. I liked the place and would readily go back with my colleagues if I could persuade them to stretch their legs. Good pub.
