Malden man left this review about The Coachman

Currently undergoing a refurbishment with the tagline "village pub and dining" added under the pub name. Possibly a change in emphasis then. Provided it will still cater for drinkers as well as diners I have no issue with that, needs must to survive.

Malden man left this review about The Coachman Hotel

Dating from around 1837 The Coachman owes its existence to the Grand Junction Railway which passes close by. Situated opposite Hartford Station, the pub was originally The Hartford Station Inn, having a number of similar "Station Hotel" type monikers before becoming The Coachman in 1971. The pub retains the separate lounge and vault layout although there is a connecting door inside. The vault remains traditional with tiled floor, limited seating and a pool table. The larger lounge bar is divided into different areas with a mix of seating. Towards the rear is an area overlooking the garden which is more geared up for eating.
Accommodation is available in the converted stable block to the side. The rear garden incorporates a kids play area.
Live music is advertised on Saturday evenings and there is a quiz on a Thursday. I can't vouch for the food but it looked to be good value if standard stuff, sandwiches £2.60-£3.95, home made pies with the trimmings £6.95, sausage & mash £5.95.
Two handpumps on the bar, these were dispensing Tetley Bitter and Marston's Pedigree. The pub is open all day, many around this area are not. An ok spot I thought if unremarkable and it was useful to me for a welcome pint after my train journey.
