Steve C left this review about Rose & Crown

The Rose & Crown has a wooden floor throughout with a small carpeted seating area to the right. Seating runs up the left of the bar counter to create an L-shaped interior. Premium and craft keg was available and the three hand pumps were drawing Purity’s Ubu, Deuchars and Church Farm’s IPA. The service was polite and I don’t mind a bit of 90s music from the likes of Annie Lennox, but this place is very forgettable.

Nice looking pub which was busy when I called. I had a beer from the Green Duck brewery although the name of it escapes me! OK for one on a crawl.

Fairly drab pub. Modernised inside and an L-shaped interior. 3 handpulls dispensed an average lot of IPAs. Not cheap either. Like the Tilted Wig its probably best avoided.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Rose & Crown

Attractive and historic inn at the far end of the Market Place, but thoroughly made-over inside. Now features an overall 'L'-shaped layout with the bar in the middle, further seating in a side room and a dining area to the rear on the opposite side. Still offers B&B accommodation too, though. Semi-modern furniture and decor throughout, and efficient service. Three real ales on handpump: Doom Bar, Purity Pure Gold and Church Farm Harry's Heifer (£3.90).

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Rose & Crown

We sat at a large table on the left of the entrance, which gave a good view across the corner of the Market Sq. There was a window sill across the bay window filled with large pumpkins, which added a good Halloween touch.
To the right of us was a lounge area with an open fire. The bar faced us and to the left and rear was set our for dining. There were three ales on the bar, I was a bit dubious ordering a Purity Gold in case it was served too cold, what with the pub being modern and trendy. To my surprise the beer was served at the perfect temperature, hence the Cask Marque. This was a clean and well run pub.

An end terrace Georgian styled building, though the front windows have been replaced, in white render, with a patio

The interior is an L shape around the bar and is modern, with sofas, comfy chairs, candles on the tables, arty picutes on the walls - things i generally hate. There was a wood floor and the decor was a mix of light green, red and white, with some painted stone. The service was good, indeed, the way the young looking staff dissuaded a drunk from entering the place was well done! the clientele, of course, were not drunks, which is why the staff pointed out that he perhaps would have been better suited elsewhere; they were a general mix.

Beer; well tap stuff, with some interesting lagers - indeed i tried the Staropromen and some Japanese one, called Kirin Ichiban (i think!) both of which were fine, especially the Japanese one. I also had a Ubu Purity Gold on handpull - the other choices were the unispiring Bombardier and Black Sheep bitter.

Whilst the style of place isn't my cup of tea, i enjoyed my visit due to the chance to try the lagers (though not cheap!) - something i never hardly touch.
