Steve C left this review about The Nelson Pub

I’m not sure that I saw the Nelson Pub in its best light when I visited early on a recent Sunday evening. The interior retains two bars, there was a family with young children in the left-hand side so I went into the right. Standard and premium keg was available and I noted two hand pumps. Purity’s Mad Goose was off so I opted for Slaughterhouse Brewing’s Saddleback, which was also off so I had half a generic lager and wondered why they still hadn’t reversed the clip. The television was off, no Sky Sports. The background music came from, what I assumed to be, one of the bar staff’s Spotify accounts. This is where things got interesting because the young lady behind the bar disappeared out back and a Christmas song came on, which I didn’t mind and the young family loved, but a couple of locals at the bar had a grumble. The next song I would describe as gangsta rap, and I must say that I’ve never heard the N-word repeated so many times within 60 seconds – no build up, they just cut to the chase with N this, N that and N the other. A red faced young lady came sprinting from the back to skip the rest of the song. I thought it was hilarious, however I’m not sure the young family found it so funny. A forgettable pub that I’ll remember for a long time to come.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Lord Nelson

Traditional corner local retaining a two-bar layout, with an exposed timber ceiling in the main bar (aka the Admiral's Cabin). Pool table and a bit more seating in the other bar. Imaginative use of chalkboards; otherwise, relatively plain furniture and decor. Doom Bar and Byatt's Brewhouse Best (£3.10) from two of five handpumps on the two counters.

Soup Dragon left this review about Lord Nelson Inn

A cream rendered corner pub with brown paintwork and with writing and painting on the exterior like an old Victorian pub (or a modern Bathams one!)

The interior has two rooms; one in white with a pool table in and the main room, which is in wood panel and decked out like a ship of the line (forgive the pun) - indeed, fake barrels are used as a part of the bar itself. As you can imagine, Nelson and Trafalgar cover the walls with lots of other ephemera, like the odd cannon, dotted about. The service was fine, the clientele small, but mixed and they did do food though we never got to it as it was before 6pm!

Beer; tap stuff and a decent Everards Beacon

Despite a limited real ale choice, the beer was good and the place is just fun to visit if you like that sort of thing - i do, so i would go back
