Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Mary Arden Inn

It might initially appear to be a traditional Greene King pub opposite a picturesque village green, but all is a bit more basic than one might expect both inside and out. Partly opened out inside to leave a L-shaped arrangement of various seating areas, but no food is offered these days (although it does also operate as a daytime coffee shop). With two of the four handpumps in use, the choice was Old Golden Hen and Hogs Back Tongham TEA (£4.50) as a guest.

It's possibly sorted itself out a bit since BF's visit, but some of that may be due to it being stripped back inside for social distancing reasons. Indeed there were four or five blokes, each on a separate table shouting to each other; c'est la vie. Anyway we elected to take our eurofizz outside, having navigated the one-way system, the cask choice being Tribute or Tribute, which we didn't fancy: nobody else was on it on a very quiet Sunday afternoon.

Covid regs enthusiatically enforced, I have no problem with that. OK for what it is, but I suspect most locals leave it to the tourists and stick to the social club up the road.

Owned and tied to Greene King, this hotel bar has seen better days, the exterior is probably it's best feature.Internally it's open plan around a small serving bar with a log burner to the right, two bay windows and a curious long rear extension housing a pool table and darts board leading to an unkempt beer garden. The furniture looked a bit worn and the mindless muzak didn't lift the spirits nor did the sight on three handpumps drawing GK IPA and Abbott with Belhaven Golden Bay as a "guest".Most people visit for the food from a very standard pub grub menu which was reasonably priced with additional daily specials around £12.To the left is a guests breakfast room and the hotel reception but my main impression was of an establishment in decline with little will from the managers or owners to improve the situation.

An upmarket hotel a few minutes walk from the railway station, there is a nice bar at street level with a modern, bistro style-ish feel, presumably to attract the tourists. Its a little pricey but the feel here is good and its a friendly place for food and drink
