Ian Mapp left this review about The George Townhouse

Was looking for Sunday Lunch, but lots of establishments dont make it easy for you on line. I would have made a beeline for the GBG recommended Black Horse Inn. The website indicates there is Thai food available. A phone call confirmed that its not available at lunch time. The reason for this distraction, the owner there pointed me to the George Townhouse as a popular Sunday Lunch destination.

We passed the rear car park and found a smart Brakspear tied house. Bar area and a smart dining area with booth style seating.

Posh, with other punters discussing holidays in Montserrat. This didnt stop me witnessing the first "your banned" event of 2024. A shouty old man who clearly needed a carer ejected for getting rather too animated.

I didn't have a beer today (one Brakspear Gold on) - but the service was excellent and the sunday roast lunch very good. Today's unusual extra - peas.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The George Townhouse

Situated in the centre of Shipston, the George Townhouse serves as a pub, restaurant and a hotel. It uses its function and its location to maximum extent by charging well over the going rate for drinks.

A Brakspear-run pub, Gravity & Oxford Gold are the real ales.

Inside, there is one long space, with the bar on the right-hand side, with various side rooms off the central space. Despite essentially being a hotel bar, the drinking environment is pleasing enough. But with the high prices and the lack of decent ales, it wouldn't be my first choice when in town.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The George Townhouse

Imposing building housing an upmarket bar, restaurant and hotel with the bar and various seating areas in the centre and dining rooms on either side. Refurbished by Brakspear in a semi-modern style, but the layout helps retain some character. Also has a patio terrace out back. Just two of four handpumps operational when I visited, dispensing Brakspear Bitter (£3.60) and Wainwright, but the reversed clips were definitely for other beers.
