A down-to-earth pub up the road from the station. A nice looking pub exterior but a fairly basic interior. 2 roomed with a pool table in the room behind the bar. Very purple inside and there is a small stage opposite the bar. 2 handpumps on the bar but only one ale on today, that being Belhaven Scrum Down (or something).

A very neat looking pub from the outside, inside it's in need of some TLC. The other pubs in this area have all closed and as there were only 4 people in the pub on a Friday evening this one may well be next. The barmaid looked bored out of her skull as she served me a half of the only cask ale available which was John Smiths, it was OK. There's a giant screen for sport along with pool and darts, but nothing drew in the punters during my visit.

The Wheeltapper is a large victorian pub that is now the closest open pub to the train station.
Once inside the main bar room is L shaped, this room has bench seating around the edge with small stools, there is a pool table in a smaller area to the rear left.
There was one real ale on the bar which was John Smiths Cask, this was a decent enough drink.
There was some old type background music playing, the pub was quite busy on my Saturday evening visit.
This pub reminded me of pubs in Hyson Green in the late 80s but without the edge.
I thought this was a decent enough pub to end my crawl of Rugby in.

Lovely imposing Victorian corner pub with nice striped brickwork and inlaid clock. On entering you can spot the remnants of some old Victorian tiling in the lobby, leading up the stairs (see pic). Pretty unspectacular inside, the main bar is a crude knocked-through affair with a rear room housing pool and darts. Arches separate these rooms but it’s all rather dull, unloved and shabby. Just John Smiths cask at the bar, a rare sighting these days and unfortunately it was a pretty poorly-kept one at that. Feels like a place that has fallen on hard times and would be a shame to see it succumb. But I could hardly recommend a visit based on a bit of tiling.

A fine Victorian building from the outside, but seemingly on it's last legs judging by the number of punters within on a Friday evening with Spain v Holland being screened live.Infact the three remnants of the PuG crawl made up 75% of the client base. The barmaid looked bored.
There is some fine tiling in the entrance lobby, the main bar room has a raised small stage at the apex of the interior and a darts board, while to the side there is a pool table, large flatscreen and a well filled trophy cabinet. The single handpump was drawing an unexciting John Smith Cask and the pall of death seemed to hang over the place.Although it would be sad to see it go,there isnt a lot to tempt a casual visitor, and several pubs nearby have already given up the ghost.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Wheeltapper

Quite a substantial corner building, which was presumably once a hotel located about half-way between the station and Rugby town centre. The operational bar is irregular in shape, with unusual brick-arch vaulting above the counter. Pool table in an unlit side room. Nice tiling around the former main extrance. Punk-era music on the jukebox. Only one of the two handpumps was working, but this produced an unexpectedly good pint of Holts Humdinger (£2.60). Overall, very much a locals pub but they obviously get a few passing visitors as well.
