Thuck Phat left this review about Shoulder Of Mutton

The Shoulder of Mutton has been through several hands over the years but the current incumbents, who've recently taken over, after a period of closure, do seem to be making a serious effort. There are real signs of investment in the place of both time and money.
The building is an attractive, traditional whitewashed pub but with visible black beams and exposed brick at the back. Next to the car park entrance is a rarely seen horse tethering post which, judging by the attached baling twine and well cropped grass, is well used. At the back is the car park and garden with a recently landscaped pond as well as the first few courses of an extension to the dining room.
On entering through the front door, you find yourself in a traditional bar area with a Northamptonshire skittles table and dart board in the area to the right. To the left is the door through to a larger room which serves as the dining room. This feels very much as though it has been recently refurbished and, as it was empty on our visit, lacked atmosphere. The menu looked good though for quality pub food and is chalked on various boards around the place. It also seemed good value and there are various deals offered through the week as well.
The bar serves both rooms so you can order a pint while eating or when popping in from the garden and there are two handpumps in each room so it's worth asking what's on. On our visit there were three offerings from Greene King: IPA Gold, Abbot and Hardy & Hansons Kimberly in addition to a well kept Mad Goose from Purity.
The whole place feels professionally run as well being friendly and I hope that they succeed with it although I'd prefer to see a more interesting ale choice across the four handpumps. I'd be happy to slide in for a pint if passing.
