I liked this pub very much and was very pleased to find 14 handpumps all working on my mid-day visit on a Friday,I found the beer range to decent and varied ,a very comfortable pub with as previously mentioned two bar areas and a couple of little corners tucked away along with an outside courtyard seating area to the rear. This is certainly worth a visit and indeed I returned here for a second visit later on in the day

The interior of the pub has been expertly refurbished by the Project William team, the island bar serves two comforable areas, while to one side, down a step is a discreet television room resembling a snug. However with the departure of a leading member of the team who leant his trade at The Merchants, the ale selection on my visit was rather mundane.Three B&T ales were available but not the more interesting of their range, while the guests seemed concentrated on lower ABV's and some leading micros were represented by cautious choices.Maybe that's what the locals like,I was expecting more from a pub deemed by CAMRA to be the best in Warwickshire .
It's worth a visit to see how a failed pub can be revitalised by real ale, include it on any crawl but IMHO,although it's good it is far from the best pub in Rugby.

Have to agree with Soupy, you really could spend all day in here. The pub was comfortable and had a very pleasant atmosphere. Other drinkers were friendly and chatty and all the beers were very well kept. There were 12 handpumps on our visit, two of which were ciders. I found the Shefford Bitter and Shefford Golden Fox very much to my taste and very good session ales.

This is a recently refurbished Everards and Banks & Taylor pub. It is detached and has a patio area at the bac. The pub looks like an amalgam of three old Victorian terraced houses. It is in undressed brick with green paintwork on the windows and door. There are decorative lintels and a bay window. The main room is open plan around the central serving bar. One side is in red, white and wood panel, with wood and tile floor and coffee ceiling. It has various prints on the walls, with shipwrecks and Player's cards, as well as a small bottle collection and hanging jugs. The other side is in white, with a fireplace and several prints on the walls. There is a narrow conservatory, with a few seat in. The TV wasn't on and there was no music. The service was great, and a few friendly regulars were in. Beer; usual tap stuff with the following handpulls; Everard's Original, Tiger and Amber MILD (decent), B & T Shefford Sitter, Dragon's Gold, Golden Fox and Dragon Slayer; Speyside Bottlenose (decent) and Orkney Dark Island (very good) and Downton New Forest Ale. A class pub and great choice of beers. You could stay here all day (two if they dont find you camping out in the conservatory).

A bit of a local type pub this, probably not one you would visit unless a local, or on a crawl. Ok.
