Alan Winfield left this review about The Royal Oak

The Royal Oak is an estate type looking pub that is situated on a busy road to the east of the town centre.
Once inside there was an oblong shaped lounge to the front, this room was carpeted and had normal tables and chairs,no bench seating, the bar is to the rear, this room is also oblong shaped, bare boarded with a pool table in the middle of the room, there were a few normal tables and chairs to the left with tall ones to the right, there was a Northants skittles table to the rear right.
There was one unclipped pump in each room, this left John Smiths smooth crap to drink, this was a pretty crap drink.
Modern type background music was playing, all customers were in the rear bar where i had a drink, these were local estate pub type customers.
