There's a lot going on here: bar, restaurant, pool room, conservatory, covered smoking area, garden and children's playground and benches at the front to watch the world go by. And that's before you mention the location in an attractive village with the Ashby canal running around it and the, excellent, Battlefield Line just beyond.
I was only interested in the comfortable, wood panelled bar and decent beer served by a smiling barmaid.
Regular beers are Marstons Pedigree and very well kept Timothy Taylor Landlord with 2 guests on our visit being Salopian Oracle and Wychwood Hobgoblin.
An excellent village pub with something for everyone.

A very attractive village pub with a large restaurant area to the right of the entrance with it's own bar.The main tap room to the left has wood paneling on the walls and flag stone style flooring ,traditional furniture and a small flatscreen ,off during my lunchtime visit but Sky Sports is advertised.Sadly the fireplace only had a coal effect gas fire,not the real thing on a chilly morning.The pool room has ,unusually,a conservatory leading off it.Food is a large draw here ,and you can eat anywhere,the restaurant wasnt functioning on my trip.There was a friendly welcome from behind the bar and regular ales in Pedigree and TT Landlord were well kept,the two guests were Salopian Oracle and Hobgoblin.2014 GBG listing deserved.
There was a good cross section of locals,boaters and walkers and many customers were just in for a beer.A proper village pub ,and although I didn't eat the menu looked solid although you pay for the surroundings.The three course Sunday lunch at £12.95 sounded tempting.
Very close to the Ashby Canal,in a charming village this pub is a fine example of it's type.

This is a detached pub. with patio and kid's play areas. The pub site cheek-by-jowl with the church and has been a pub, of the same name, since at least the Victorian period. The pub consists of a cottage house, extended at the back, with a low-level side extension housing the restaurant. There is also a conservatory. The pub is in cream render and actually quite plain, but for the hanging backets, covered entrance and the wheel windows. The interior has three areas. The extension is a restaurant, which has a gallery. It is in brick, with blue carpet, and has a fireplace and a bit of bistro art. The main bar is in heavy wood panel, with a flag floor and white ceiling. It has a TV (not on) and lots of old photos, plates, prints of animals and dogs etc - all the trappings of a traditional country pub. It has a small fireplace. There is a side area, in white artex and wood, with laminate floor, which has a pool table and a TV showing the footy. The conservatory comes off this. The music was soft and the seating a mix of bench and stools/chairs. The service was friendly and a good mix were in, some watching the match, others drinking in the main room, or having a bar snack. Beer; usual tap stuff with Peroni: on handpull there was Pedigree, Ruddles Best and a decent Adnams Broadside and Timothy Taylor Landlord. A pleasant visit - I really enjoyed my stop off here. Worth a look if visiting the steam railway.

This is a decent looking oldish pub that is quite long.
Inside here the main bar area is really nice with wood panneling all round the room,the far end of the pub is set aside for diners and this was empty they may only do meals in the evening.
There were three real ales on the bar i had a drink of Taylor Landlord this was very nice there was also Pedigree and Davenports Summer Storm,i thought this was a decent pub in a nice setting.
