Exterior signage proclaims this as Kenilworths oldest pub.

It's certainly my favourite based on what I found Good Beer Guide Ticking (this everards tied house doesnt make the cut).

Multi roomed, multi bared, lots of nooks and crannies, low ceilings and wood.

Decent pint of Tiger and fishfinger sandwich.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Virgins & Castle

As the previous review states, the Virgins & Castle lays claim to being the oldest pub in Kenilworth. It is certainly in a pleasant part of town on the old High Street, which remains separate from the town's current commercial centre.

It's an Everard's pub with seemingly limited outdoor seating. With only 3 or 4 tables on the pavement, I managed to grab the last table, which the waitress was initially hesitant in offering me. Although, there may well have been further seating at the rear of the pub.

The other tables were occupied by some groups of 6, who were being served what looked to be large platters of Ploughman's lunches. They looked very appetising indeed.

The ale range was not quite so tempting - Old Original, Tiger & Sunchaser. I opted for the Tiger.

Toilets are upstairs inside, which gave me the opportunity of witnessing the impressive interior, with plenty of dark wood and a few different rooms/sections.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Virgins & Castle

Kenilworth's oldest pub (dating from 1563, according to the inscription outside), and although partly remodelled and refurbished, some parts of the overall 'L'-shaped and slightly split-level arrangement of various seating / dining areas and snugs retain a lot of character (although others look more modern). Five Everards beers - Tiger, Sunchaser, Beacon Hill (£3.50), Golden Hop and Old Original - plus Old Rosie cider available from the six handpumps on each counter.

The Famous Virgins and Castle is a really nice looking white painted pub that opposite a pub that does not open at normal times.
Once inside there are quite a few small rooms, there is a bar on a upper level which was unmanned but a sign said if it is go to the lower bar which was staffed.
The pub is an Everards tied house and had a good choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Everards Beacon Bitter which went down well, the other Everards beers were Tiger,Sunchaser and Original, there was a guest beer on which i failed to note.
The seating in all rooms was normal tables and chairs, quiet background music was playing.
This is a really nice pub to have a few drinks in.

Excellent Everard's pub in 15th Century building well described below, though not in the current (2013) GBG as the Old Bakery across the road gets a turn. In the most attractive part of town and well worth seeking out.

Excellent. characterful old rambling pub, or allegedly two pubs joined together many years ago. Lots of small areas and considerable wood panelling. Large range of Everards beers, with a frequently-changing guest ale, and those sampled in fine order. Menu has heavy Filipino content, with a few staples for the less adventurous. Small walled garden at rear. Recommended.

This is a large terraced Georgian styled Everard's pub and eatery in white render and black paintwork, with a projecting front gable at one end. The old coach entrance has been converted into an antrance way to the one end of the pub. There is a rear patio area. In the GBG 2011.

The interior is a nesting of rooms. The plan of the pub is a U-shape and comprises of at least 5 rooms. The main bar area (accessed by the coaching door) has a high roof and a stone and carpet floor. The walls are a mix of cream, lots of wood panel and undressed brick and there is a gallery level, which has a large brick fireplace. The main bar is connected to the lounge by a corridor with a serving bar and three snugs with views out to the road. The first small square snug room has a brick and stone floor, a white and beam ceiling, cream walls with red tile and has a settee. The second (middle snug) is similar with bench seating and a brick fireplace. The third has green carpet, cream walls, grey ceiling and a brick fire - they are all nicely done. The lounge, like the bar, forms a wing of the pub. It too is in cream and has a TV, which wasn't on at my visit. There was no music. They do food here, but i didn't eat so can't comment on that. The service was very good and the clientele leaning more to the maturer side, and it was quite busy.

Beer; usual tap stuff with Everard's Tiger, Sunchaser, Beacon and Original, with Young's Bitter as a guest. The Beacon and Original were decent.

A quality pub, both for beer and ambience. A must if in Kenilworth. I visited a few months back and misplced the notes, so i hope i have read them right!

A rambling old pub with many rooms and stairs giving the place plenty of character. An Everards pub. I sampled a very tasty pint of Sunchaser on my visit
