Real Ale Ray left this review about The White Lion

The original White Lion on this site, dates back to 1792 and the pub was demolished in the late 1930's. The current building bearing the same name was then built. Pictures of the original pub are on display in the oak panelled room, which is on the far left. We called in on a Wednesday lunchtime, where there was a few customers dining and also a couple of drinkers. The pub is traditional in décor, with carpets running throughout. The main room hosts an oak bar, with a collection of miniature bottles running along the top. There was also a small room to the right hand side, with pool table and as mentioned, the oak panelled room on the left.
There were three handpumps on the bar, with two in use, serving up Fullers Front Row and North Cotswold Brewery Windrush Ale. We went for the Windrush after the manager gave us a sample. The beer was excellent and very well kept. The manager named Dave, told us that later on into the year, he serves more in the way of ales and that he was also an ale enthusiast.
We really enjoyed our visit here and we found Dave to be very entertaining, as he had us all in stitches with his wit and dry sense of humour. Every pub needs a Dave and it was good to have a good old laugh.

Alan Winfield left this review about The White Lion

The White Lion is a decent sized stand alone pub that has a mock tudor upper half, the pub is situated just off the town centre.
Once inside the main room was oblong shaped with the bar facing, the room is carpeted, the seating was normal tables and chairs, there is a seperate pool room to the right which is down a slight step, there is a darts board in a small area to the left which had a few normal tables and chairs.
There were two real ales on the bar plus two real ciders,i had a drink of Penpoint Cornish Arvor which was a decent drink, the other beer was Doom Bar.
Abba was playing on the sound system, because the pub was having an Abba night with music and fancy dress,i wish we could have stayed for this,it would have been a good laugh.
We both really enjoyed our visit to this pub,a really good lively pub.

Roger Button left this review about The White Lion

A decent sized brick and mock Tudor pub near the town centre with a spacious if rather featureless and uninspiring interior. Divided into 3 areas, the main bar is rather characterless with dated décor and false ceiling. No Real Ales, just standard keg beers / lagers. The pub is mainly geared up for live sports and offers the usual selection of pub entertainment (fruit machines, karaoke, quizzes and the like). A large room off the main bar has 2 dart boards and can be used for private functions. One item of note – there are old fashioned call bells in the wood paneling – not something you see much of these days. The décor is rather monotonous and could do with a few pictures or something to give it a bit of focus. To the other side of the main bar near the entrance is a separate pool room. The pus is very much a functional and workmanlike local's pub rather than anything special but we found a friendly enough welcome. There is a car park and some outside seating. OK for a quick pint or if there is something specific going on (they were half way through the weekly quiz when we arrived) but I wouldn't make this a regular haunt for the sake of it
