This is a rescued and reopened pub, a 300 year old former farmhouse. Literally umpteen interconnected rooms, beamed ceilings and a mixture of stone flagged and quarry tiled floors, dotted with rugs. Exposed brick fireplaces including an inglenook, stacks of logs suggest winter use. The bar is covered in hops as are fireplaces and picture rails, mixed seating.
A good beer range, Merlin Castle Black, Coach House Clippety Hop, Three Greyhounds Bitter which I understand is Weetwood Old Dog, Byley Bomber, Deuchers IPA and an unbranded cider.
Shakerley Mere is very close, a nice spot to walk around or feed the water birds, outdoor types will also enjoy the large side grassed garden. Dogs are welcome, there were a couple in. The rear has another separate building for hire called "The Old Dog House". Splendid pub.

Had lunch here on a quiet weekday, only 3 other tables occupied, service was a bit slow but friendly enough. Pleasant atmosphere and plenty of space. Food was good, we only had light meals, but from the size of plates being delivered to other tables portions are generous. Prices were reasonable. Ale is Theakstons Best and a couple of guest ales. Wheelchair access and accessible toilets. Plenty of car parking, also a large beer garden. This pub is about 10 minutes from the M6, a far more pleasant eating experience than motorway services.
