Excellent pub probably one of the best, the pub was originally called the Crown until a 19th century owner, a sea captain with a wife in Spain, decided to install his mistress at the inn and add the name Posada, which is Spanish for hostelry. He also commissioned the two stain glass windows at the front and he is depicted in one of them. When refurbishing several years ago they found the artist's original oil sketches on the plaster and the photos of this are kept behind the bar. This is a long and narrow bar with a snug on the left. Amazing ornate ceiling plasterwork. Fabulous range of ales, very friendly and chatty staff, owner also very helpful. Spotlessly clean, old gramophone plays at the end of the bar. I enjoyed the Hadrian border Gladiator, Byker Light, Consett White Hot and Leeds New Moon - looking forward to return.

I like the style of this 2010 entry in the Good Beer Guide, with its long narrow bar. Loved the cartoon pictures on the wall, said to be customers from some time ago. Enjoyed Big Lamp Sunny Daze and Yorkshire Dales Booze Moor here.

Completely splendid echo of the past. Spent a very pleasant evening sitting in here and working down the row of pumps!

Fantastic old pub, long and thin, known as "The Coffin" locally. Has a tiny snug in the Irish style on the left as you enter. Also has comfortable seating at the rear if you can get past the bar. Has 5 ever changing guests usually including one from Consett Ale Works. Has an old style gramophone at the end of the bar which is usually playing in the evenings. A classic, you must try this place when in Newcastle. I suggest you combine it with a trip to the El Torero tapas bar a little further up The Side which has a great atmosphere and good food.

Great little refuge if you need a break from the Quayside fun and games. A pint of Mordue will put you right before you head back the the tastless chemical pints in the rest of the Quayside...oh yeah, look above you

A "must visit" if you are in N/castle.. Great beer (Mordue) but be prepared to squeeze up at the bar, its certainly worth it. Oh, and Look above you.....
