With the Broad Chare (a few doors up) closed on our Tuesday evening visit, we made our last stop before heading up to the football ground, the Head of Steam.

It seems like the last reviewer was very unlucky. There were 5 real ales on this time - Two By Two Raspberry Stout & Amarillo Ekuanot, Cameron's Road Crew, Tyne Bank Castle Gold & Tiny Rebel Cwtch. They no longer stock a real cider.

Both of the Two by Two beers were very nice indeed. It's a comfortable, but modern place with plenty of seating. CAMRA discounts are offered.

Whenever in Newcastle we always call in here and always find it OK,but was a bit disappointed on our recent visit. There were 8 hand pumps 3 had no clips on and the other 5 were all turned round,so asked for a pint of a Spanish lager and a Martini Rosso for Mrs Wild Rover, both of which they had none of.Finshed up with 2 halves of foreign lager that I had never heard of before.

a relaxed sort of place, like the others in this group it’s a decent place for a decent pint. It has a million times more charm than most pub chains. Seven ales on covering a good range of styles. Please all food menus with standard gastropub fare. Long haired barman called me ‘dude’ as he served up my pint, I think he was in charge of the playlist too. Nirvana-ahoy! From my seat I could see both the mural of the Tyne and the Tyne itself, which was nice.

Now run by Cameron's after an extensive refurb and reopened in Aug 2016. This is a good sized pub with a multitude of seating options. We found a decent spot down the far left hand side of the bar. This area had a collection of various drinking vessels in a display hanging from the ceiling. Around the corner was a large mural of the Tyne Bridge which was very eye catching. The décor in here was exposed red brick walls, grey walls and timber and toffee coloured banquette seating. Eight handpumps with seven in use, so we went for the Fell Brewery OPA and the Northern Alchemy IPA.

I'm sure this has taken as part of the huge long room what used to be the Bonding Warehouse, but could be wrong. Not a good as some of the other pubs but nothing particularly wrong with it. Worth a visit.

A very long, but not very deep bar with massive girly friendly windows. It's effectively one long room, but to the far right there's another small room with a pool table. Lots of large TV screens around the place all showing sport of some kind. The furniture is a mix of high stools and tables, standard dining tables and chairs and some comfy sofas. Friendly and chatty bar staff and a pleasant, laid back feel. Now for the bad news, it's owned by Greene King. Three handpumps on the bar serving GK IPA, Old Golden Hen and Gangly Ghoul. The ghoul was an OK pint for GK. Lots of better pubs in the surrounding area, so I doubt that we'll bother again.

A long large modern style bar, formerly known as the Baltic Tavern and more recently The Wig And Pen.The pub has large windows, with plenty of setees and heavy wooden furniture.Quite liked it in here and used this as our base camp on our recent visit to the city. They had three casks on,and although we did not try the food,it did look quite appetizing.
