Bucking Fastard left this review about The Old Ship

A Youngs house with attractive exterior stained glass and a traditional two room interior with dark wood flooring throughout. The smarter section is to the left with lots of wood panelling and it's own bar access. The right side is more earthy and has a long devided drinking shelf and high stools with more dining type tables further back.Lots of wall hung photos and maps of the River Thames, although the pub itself sits on a street corner in the shopping district.
There were 4 handpumps all clipped on my visit but on ordering St Austell Proper Job,then Youngs Winter Warmer I was told both were not available.Still the clips were not reversed, very bad practice. That left just two options Youngs Original (NBSS 2) and Special.Food is served most sessions but my tuna sandwich left a lot to be desired.
I can see no reason to return, with some dedication and TLC this could be a good pub,but not as it stands currently.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Old Ship

Interesting-looking pub, and easy to spot in the darker hours due to its prominent position on a road junction and the illuminated red signage on the upper façade. Traditional, multi-room interior on two floors, with plenty of dark-wood panelling and mostly nautical memorabilia. Being a Youngs pub, Original and Special plus Twickenham Naked Ladies as a guest available from the various handpumps on three different bar counters.

A two roomed pub, quite attractive with lead lined windows and a general olde worlde feel. There are eight pumps in all four in each room and on my visit the beers were duplicated on either side, these were Young's Bitter, Special and Winter Warmer plus Twickenham Grandstand, the Young's Bitter reflected its nom de plume and was indeed rather ordinary. I thought the pub itself was ok but given the beer line up I wouldn't make a beeline back too soon.

This Youngs outlet was a bit of a beacon on our nightime visit with the pub’s name beaming out via large red neon lettering at the top of George St. Two rooms inside, accessed via a central lobby. Left room quieter with some blue square wood panelling. Was getting worse for wear after a long crawl but noted the attractive stained glass colour frontage with inlaid ship motif and model ships in glass cases. Apparently refurbished the previous month, on later checking. Four pumps, 3x Youngs and Twickenham Grandstand. Having guzzled Twickers all day I decided to go with the Youngs Blonde and wished I hadn’t bothered, as it was utterly pedestrian. Overall, it seemed decent enough as a package.

The pub name is illuminated in large red lettering across the frontage and is a well known landmark as the pub sits in a prominent position at the top of George St. The main entrance lobby sits between the two rooms and contains what I took to be a ship's capstan. The nautical theme continues with model ships and stained glass windows incorporating sailing ships. Carpeted in the saloon bar and wood flooring in the other room which extends to the rear. The pub was very busy early on Saturday evening with not a seat to be had so I headed upstairs to the upper Deck Bar. This is also split into two similar areas but it was quite brightly lit and less appealing with the shutters down on the bar so I returned downstairs where I eventually bagged a seat.
The pub had a pleasant ambience and was chatty and lively and the football being shown on TV with volume down did not distract from the atmosphere. Cosy with a low beamed ceiling, the fire lit and subdued lighting. Bench and chair seating, some benches with wooden backs.
A few people were eating, mainly in the carpeted room away from the football, but the fare is expensive, steak and ale pie £10.50, lamb shank £11.50, although not having sampled I cannot vouch for the quality.
Youngs beers, Ordinary, Special and Bombardier were on.
There is a walled garden area to the rear which has a covered area with another TV.

Rex Rattus left this review about The Old Ship

This is a Young’s house, although they did have a guest ale in Hooky Bitter. It still has two separate rooms, although they are interconnected behind the serving area. I would expect it to get a fair amount of passing trade due to its prominent position on one of the main pedestrian thoroughfares in Richmond, although it wasn’t particularly crowded when I was in there on Wednesday lunchtime. You enter the pub through a vestibule, whose glass panelling suggests that it leads to the Saloon Bar, but the glass front in the unused doors to the right hand bar claims that it is (or was) the Lounge and Snack Bar, whereas the glass frontage in the also unused door to the left hand bar claims it is the Lounge. Anyway, the right hand bar is bare-boarded and a bit more down to earth than the other bar, although it does have a nice model ship on the wall. The other bar is carpeted and seems more comfortable to me, and is a bit more like what I would expect a saloon bar to be, with comfortable banquette seating and normal tables and chairs. There’s plenty of dark wood around the place, as well as the inevitable, but appropriate, nautical paraphernalia. All in all this struck me as an attractive pub with its leaded light windows featuring sailing ships, and traditional low-ceilinged interior. I would be very happy to visit again.

The Old Ship is a prominent pub as you can see it when walking down the main shopping street.
This is a decent looking Youngs tied house.
Once inside there were a couple of rooms i went in the room at the front this was smartish and comfortable but it was very busy on my visit.
There were three real ales on the bar i had a drink of Youngs bitter and this was a decent drink the other beers were Youngs Special and a seasonal from Youngs.
I quite liked this pub but it was a bit too busy.
