A street corner pub which has now been restored to one conventional premise. The interior has been somewhat modernised and has several very different sections, with conventional tables as you go in and in a central room facing the long side bar, then a strange area with high fixed benches and different décor, then a few snug alcoves leading through to a large outdoor area, including a well-furnished covered part. Regular draught beers seem to be Tribute and Landlord with a local guest and seemed very drinkable. The pub also features a huge gin selection. No pub games but there are some board games available. Food is from the Barrel and Stone group, so pizza only.

I’m not sure what to make of the Roe Deer because the previous Panther Inn has been split into a wine shop to the left and a pub/deli to the right. The interior is still connected so one can sit with a pint in the ‘wine shop’ whilst the young lad behind the counter serves customers.

During my visit on Monday evening the only other customers were a couple who were tucking into some sort of sharing platter. I noted different pies with chips advertised for £7 a pop, but I didn’t see any other food advertised. There is no television and I didn’t spot any other distractions, like gaming machines, but there was some background music playing courtesy of ‘gramophone fm’.

The bar is stocked with a limited draught range and the three supported hand pumps were drawing Greene King IPA, Golden Hen and Wadworth’s 6X.

In my opinion there are better options in the town centre so I cannot see a return visit anytime soon.

I took a walk from the station and wound up at the Panther. Really warm reception and a welcoming owner and a welcoming crowd of people who seemed happy to chat to a stranger. The beer's well kept and I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Great pub.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Panther Inn

Friendly local selling a better-than-average pint of Greene King IPA.
