Fairly generic out of town pub eatery, retaining a multi area feel. On the staid side of decor inside, (candles on the tables etc) but not unpleasant and gratefully warm on a bitter winter evening with a wood fire roaring away. To the rear is a tidy grassed garden. Three ales at the bar and a decent selection in Brakspear Bitter, Harveys Bitter and Pilgrim Progess, the latter of which was in very good form and served up by a cheerful and efficient young female barmaid. Whilst this one isn’t really a must visit, I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality; if you have an extended stint in town it's worth the walk to try out. 6.5
