Quinno _ left this review about The White Lion

A fabulous back street pub, perched atop a quiet junction. It's a multi-roomed interior over a number of levels retaining a number of original features. Enter to main bar with small and narrow retaining glass leaded gantries and a snob screen. Either side are a few steps to extra seating, to the right is a pool table and a nice lounge which overlooks the garden. Most of the original windows remain - frosted, leaded, picked colours and inset lion motifs. Live music advertised. Let downs however - freezing cold and a TV was showing a property porn show for no reason. Additionally, there were five pumps but only one on - GK Abbot - which in fairness drank well but surely a poor performance for a Friday lunchtime. Not much life behind the bar either, a friendly welcome is what makes or breaks backstreet pubs and there wasn’t one here, despite me being the only customer (perhaps not hard to see why?). Pub connoisseurs will love this one but it’s a shame that the main draw is being neglected. I hope it’s not an ‘in-peril’ pub but it sure seemed like it. I'll be generous with a 7.
