Good Beer Guide 2023 Entry and handily positioned near Broadbottom Station - which happened to be the end of Stage 7 of the Greater Manchester Ringway (which I am walking).

Fairly non-descript from the outside. Inside has a nice bar with plenty of beer paraphernalia. Its a brewery tap for Green Mill. Never seen their beers before. The Northern Lights ESB Bitter was decent.

Also - a lot of continental brews on Keg and in bottle. So quite a variety and something for everyone.

Bar staff very friendly and helpful.

Regulars like to be "taps arff" (as the Scots say) when the sun shines, showing their tattoos.

No idea who Tamara Smithe is, do you Phil? And no I'm not the landlord, Phil is along with landlady Yvonne.

This is a very neat pub and there's a bit of a contrast between the outside and inside. The outside is a fairly standard brick built pub. The inside is all wooden beams and panelling with a flag floor. Lots of nooks and crannies with an eating area to the rear left. They also have a pool table, dartboard and a jukebox. Greenmill brewery is in the cellar which is run by Phil and his son Matt. That's the reason I was here, to brew a beer for Rochdale Beer Festival with them. Very successful it was too being the joint winner of Beer Of The Festival. Whilst brewing a beer there are a couple of times when all you can do is wait, so we waited in the bar. There are 6 handpumps for ale and a two more for real cider. All the beers on the bar were from their own brewery, I would have preferred to see a guest on there as well, but you can't have verything. The Greenmill Northern Lights was in very good nick and we tried several of the beers just to be sure. It's a very good pub and is now the only one left in Broadbottom. Long may it continue.

Paid my first visit yesterday evening. It seemed quite a nice pub but not very busy. Had 2 pints, one was OK, the other beer I tried `Citrus Snap` was just average. Was expecting more but I`ll be calling again sometime.

Think the previous review was a little bias (probably the landlord) which I don't appreciate. You held too much info about the pubs back ground also you added a photo of the pub with the staff obviously aware and trying to hide......... On an unbiased opinion good selection of ales fridges are empty not many people to talk to it was dark the sports aren't shown the bar staff are friendly the toilets are filthfy location is beautiful pity I didn't go on a sunny day so I could see the scenery and expensive considering it's privately owned and proud.

Don't think this place is going to last much longer bottle coolers empty cheap mixers no lights on and very cold in the middle of Autumn its a shame when GOOD HONEST PEOPLE WORK SO HARD IN PUBS AND STRUGGLE TO MAKE ENDS MEET
