A large eating sort of Stonegate pub but one where they have got things more right than not. The interior is nicely done up, with a comfy area round to the right with sofas (and the softest carpet I can remember in a pub). To the left becomes gradually more tabled, with the main eating area to the rear and an equally-tabled garden behind. I was pleasantly pleased to find two well-kept Dorking ales on in the shape of DB1 and Pilcrow Pale, with the inevitable Doom Bar. A bank of Lilley's cider boxes was also noted.

The Kings Head is situated on a busy junction that was being buzzed by boy racers doing wheelies on their dirt bikes during my recent Saturday evening visit. Unfortunately none of them fell off leaving me unable to berate them from my lofty steed. This meant that I was left with no option but to pop into this reasonably busy pub for a swift pint.

The L shaped bar was lined with locals, some of whom were watching a live football match on one of the plasma screens that are dotted around the pub. Seating can be found to the right of the bar where there is also a dartboard. To the left is a larger seating area where access can be gained to a rear beer garden that houses some picnic tables. There are another couple of picnic tables outside the front of the pub, but a waist high picket fence does little to shield from the passing traffic.

I didn’t spot any menus during my visit, but the A-board on the path outside advertised the Sunday roast which comes in at £6.45 per person. The bar is stocked with standard draught products and the three supported hand pumps were drawing Hogs Back Brewery’s T.E.A., Greene King’s IPA and Sharp’s Doom Bar.

Whilst having a nose around I spotted advertisements for a Monday evening poker night and karaoke on Fridays. I thought that this was a decent pub with a harmless enough crowd, but I did find the battle between the football commentary and background music a little irritating.

Would I return? Yes, if passing.

A busy Marston's pub just outside the town centre, The King's Head is an attractive Victorian building with rooms knocked through on two sides to form a single large L-shaped bar. There are lots of gaming machines, and though the decor is faded, the carpeted floor looks out of place by virtue of being in good condition. Two open fireplaces look as though they're rarely used. There were 3 ales on, all Marston's. I had a pint of EPA which was well-kept. There was also cheap (as opposed to "low-cost") fast food on offer but I couldn't bring myself to try it. I don't think I'd want to spend all evening here, but it's definitely worth dropping in for a quick pint and I would happily include on a town crawl.
