A not-entirely-successful modernisation of an old pub into a sports bar with numerous TV screens in all directions. White walls and a light wood floor do not make for much atmosphere in the two rooms, with the bar to the left and a seated are to the right. At the back is a surprisingly large outdoor area and an outbuilding houses a pool table. The draught beers were a bit light also, with Doom Bar being the strongest at 4.0, alongside Surrey Hills Ranmore (3.4) and Box Gym Dodger (3.2). Condition seemed good but a bit of variation would have been nice.

The Guildford Tup is not one of the best of looking pubs i have been in,but i go in any pub.
Once inside there is an L shaped room which is bare boarded, the right side is up two steps, the seating is normal tables and chairs and tall tables and stools.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Surrey Hills Ranmoor, which went down well, the other real ales were St Austell Tribute and Courage Best.
The TVs were showing rugby and the pub was very busy on my Saturday afternoon visit.
I thought the pub was better inside than it looked outside.

Bit of a shabby affair this one, shows live sport ,despite three handpumps on the bar all clipped but all were turned round, the only one I identified was St Austell Tribute, the pub seemed full of lagered up celts trying to out macho one another. I think one to miss next time.

A split level place with the main area and bar at the lower end, seating around the bar being exclusively at high tables or at the rank of bar stools, the bar blockers were out in force. Scuffed wooden flooring, various framed rugby shirts, 6 Nations flags on the ceiling. The Tvs were showing competing schedules of rugby and boxing but there is no doubt that this is a pub for the rugby enthusiast, it even declares itself as a rugby pub on the table top menus.
Up a few steps to a side area with some regular seating and a trio of mini sofas around a low table. Little in the way of décor in here and the white walls and ceiling and bright lighting from the series of downlighters made this area feel sterile and rather clinical. A bit of exposed brickwork from what looks like a removed chimney breast is the only feature of note.
Three handpumps, Tribute, Surrey Hills Shere Drop and Robinson's Voodoo Dawn made for a reasonable selection but a combination of the stool seated bar blockers and the dozy barmaid who had no idea who was waiting or next meant that service was slow.
They do food, regular pub stuff, burgers from £8.25, gammon and eggs £8.95. Sarnies around £4.50 to £6.
There is a fair sized outdoor area to the side/rear but it was far to cold to consider. Live music advertised.
A typical impersonal town pub really, probably fine if you want to watch the rugby with a few mates and a beer or two but not especially comfortable and welcoming.

Don’t mistake the Tup pub sign for it being a Youngs pub! The interior is bland, forgettable and aimed at the sports crowd. We sat out in the large and tidy if somewhat clinical patio garden to the rear. The saving grace here is the ale – three on, two from Surrey Hills and Hogsback TEA with good quality across the board. The landlord’s ipod was pelting out some fairly decent tunes too. Not exactly a destination pub but warrants a visit due to the local ales and their good quality.

Ah, one visit a year from me to this establishment. The beer was in decent shape but only Surrey Hills, did not see TEA. Decent on a sunny day like previous visit but no real changes to interior. A place for Rugby fans especially.

Just an update that a visit a couple of months ago showed improvements to the pub. The beer range was good, with 3 local real ales in Surrey Hills and Hogs Back TEA. The beer garden is also a pleasant place in the summer months.

It has been known for this to be a run down pub just off the city centre. There has generally been 3 ales on tap, although I haven't visited for some months.
