An attractive country pub compete with Swallow nests in the eaves and Swifts flying overhead, not such a common sight nowadays. The pub itself inside was almost enirely set out with diners in mind apart from the barstools around the bar and a couple of two seater tables ,all of which were occupied by drinkers. The ale choice was decent with a couple from Surrey Hills, Ranmore and Shere Drop, also Skinners Lushington and Crafty Brew Crafty One. I took my pint outside and enjoyed the sunshine.

Stumbled across whilst out walking. In the 2018 Good Beer Guide.

Perfect looking English Country Pub. Superb service - barman made me most welcome and explained the types of beers available.

Which were mainly from the Crafty Brewing Company. I went for a previously undiscovered Loxhill Biscuit.

It was OK. But high marks for the pub.

A tile hung pub in a fairly rural area of Surrey. Some steps up to the bar, an impassive cat. Large airy bar with a slightly sagging ceiling:impressive fireplace,a dining room to the left, together with a room that had the air of an upmarket village hall, where we sat and watched cyclists and campers scurry in from the hail of a damp July Wednesday evening.
A local produce and locALE pub, majoring on seasonal ingredients: I enjoyed a very rich venison based dish, together with beer from Pilgrim in Reigate, Langham in Sussex and Surrey Hills in Westhumble. The weather indicated that we didn’t patronise the beer garden, or gaze at the llamas that live at the pub.
In previous days, the Victorian artist Myles Birkett Foster lived locally, and a reproduction of one of his paintings hangs in the bar, together with a Miro.
We liked this pub:the staff were very jolly, and it seems to attract a strong local trade. Very good.
