An unusual place to find a pub, located on a large roundabout surrounded by three lanes of busy traffic, but once inside you quickly become unaware of the outside mayhem and instead turn your thoughts to the seven handpumps facing you on the bar,or if inclined about five different Lager taps. It was the ale that held my interest, six beers on the seventh pump had a reversed clip with the statment,"do not use",presumably broken.Of the six that were on, today,s choice's were two from the nearby Hogs Back Brewery, their flagship ale T.E.A. and Hop,Scrumdiggity from Goddards Brewery on the Isle of Wight, two from theakston's,Best Bitter and Old Peculiar and my choice Otter Bright, not a particularly outstanding beer but pleasant enough for a quick stop off on the way home from work. There were five or six local workmen at the bar with the same idea as me,the difference being they were all drinking Lager. To the right of the bar as you look at it the room opens up to a larger seating area for the purpose of eating as well as drinking,to the left of the bar another room more dedicated to dining. But the small bar area as you enter through the front door served my purposes of a swift pint perfectly, tiled stone floor ,a slightly modern wooden bar,a couple of agricultural implements hanging from the brick chimney breast of a small open fire. All in all a decent pub although with six or seven beers available I would have liked to have seen a couple of more adventurous selections . I would have no problem calling in again though.

Once upon a time the Shepherd and Flock must have been the last stop on the main road down from the Hog's Back before reaching Farnham itself. Now by an absolutely gross piece of planning by the roadbuilders it is stranded in the middle of a vast roundabout at the start of the Farnham Bypass, and it is astonishing that it has survived at all. Actually getting to it is no mean feat if you've never been before - if you're positioned in the wrong lane on the roundabout with 30 tons of artic up your backside you're either going to have to make another circuit or, as I had to on a couple of occasions till I'd got it right, shrug and carry on to find sustenance elsewhere. But it is worth the effort: it's an unashamedly proper pub with a friendly and enthusiastic welcome. The main drinking area is to the left, and there's a garden if you don't mind the noise and fumes. It's been a GBG regular for some years now, and quite rightly so, with half a dozen varied ales in top condition including examplme from Triple fff and Bill King when we stopped by the other day.

This pub is well worth factoring in for a break if you've got a run down the A31 coming up, and indeed well worth a trip out if you're in the area.

Odd place on a roundabout. A good range of Real Ale (five, I recall) but the interior is a bit weird, I expected a CAMRA version of Elvis to pop out from behind the bar...all Americana and sheep (?).
