Absolutely weird modern makeover of what seems to be an old building (electricity showroom?), apparently aiming at the student market although they were noticeably not among the customers at time of visit. Garish colours and artworks abound, including the large decked outdoor area at the back, while a few sports TVs seem to be ignored by everyone. It does have a small clutch of interesting-looking craft taps but sadly the cask ales were restricted to Doom Bar and London Pride, and a bit soupy at that. While I am not in their demographic, the overall feel was not too bad once you had got used to the decor.

modern and stylish bar.Busy with a young crowd.Loud music.Good beer garden to the rear.ESB and Dorking -smokestack lightening on cask and a great line up of reasonably priced keg beers.The two I tried were awesome.

There is all sorts going on in here, total sensory overload. The colour scheme involves purples, orange, salmon pink, grey, red and turquoise, even some purple tables with lime green chairs. Very mixed seating from the aforesaid to long benches at lightwood tables with of course the usual high tables, naturally in here the tables are two tone. Banquettes have scatter cushions. There is modern art on the walls, mainly in the upstairs gallery to the front, downstairs there is a pinboard covered in "Post-it" notes. The bar back has white herringbone tiling with the pub name emblazoned in huge lettering.
Despite all this, they do serve some beer, firstly you see a row of keg fonts, numbered 1-5, then three handpumps, this visit had Doom Bar, Old Rosie cider as before but also Robinson's Trooper. The Trooper was fine despite my trepidation as the clip indicated it had been reduced. Large menus dominate the tables, typical quick fix pub food and sharing platters, seemingly fried and oven baked stuff.
The pub itself is L-shaped, patio garden to the rear and a few benches to the front. I believe the place was once a cinema, it will have been a small one.
They do some unusual things, you can borrow a phone charger, (what a good idea), they will print for you....why would you need this? There is a virtual juke box whatever that might mean.
Although the beer was fine, and the cheaper price welcome, this place really isn't geared up for grumpy 50+ year olds who like traditional pubs. I'm sure it suits some down to the ground but it was all too much for me.

This is one of the parcel of pubs acquired by Stonegate from the Bramwell administrators. It has been refurbished and renamed from The Vestry though not into one of Stonegate's established brands. It's done out in a rather yoof oriented style, with a whole mishmash of furniture and garish colours towards the front, though it feels a little more staid as you progress further back. I think the theme is supposed to be American. The layout isn't significantly changed from the previous arrangement. I called on a Friday afternoon and the muzak was tolerable. I suspect it gets intolerably noisy later on.
They make a big thing about style and range of beer, though that is more in theory than reality. There are five 'craft' fonts dispensing amongst other things two keg versions of Thornbridge's mainstream cask brews at inflated prices - the thick end of a fiver for two thirds of a pint is pushing it - and just three hand pumps with, tediously, Pride, Doombar and Old Rosie cider. The whole lot is chalked up behind the bar for us to marvel at their adventurous range; and their adventurous prices. There is the usual Wifebeater and so on and that might be your best bet.
The menu majors on hamburgers. Tip: go to the MaccyD's across the road to eat first. It's a lot cheaper and the surroundings similar.
My guess is Stonegate are trialling a concept here, chasing well heeled twenty and thirty year olds who've grown out of Scream and are not quite ready for Slug and Lettuce.

Modern looking Smith & Jones chain pub,with quite a large open plan interior and the L shaped bar running along the left hand wall.On the otherside there is a long row of leather bound seating booths with more dining type tables towards the rear ,where there is a decent sized paved beer garden. The corridor to the loos contains the access to the Gallery Floor which would be a feature had it been open on my trip.It can be hired for a private party.At the bar there are two banks of three handpumps with the choice on my trip GK IPA,Courage Best,Hobgoblin and a decent Sharp's Doom Bar (£3.40).Meal deals are advertised,and cheap pub grub may well be a draw in here.
Despite being clean and tidy,the drone of the inane muzak set the tone,I had thirty minutes to kill and this place just about met the bill.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Vestry
Quite a large Smith & Jones pub, partly opened out to form various different seating areas. Also has an upstairs 'Balcony Bar' above the main space inside the entrance, plus front and rear patios. The furniture and decor is fairly anonymous, with the menus and food promotions being the the obvious features. Three of six handpumps in operation, offering Morland Original, Tolly English Ale and Bombardier (£3.20).
