The Youngs wrecking crew have turned this one over. Bar the leaded and stained windows, all semblance of class and comfort has been removed and now we have a standardized knocked-through blandness with a cavernous interior. Five pumps but doubling up meant that it was just Youngs Bitter (served in a Moretti glass and fairly average condition) Youngs Special and St Austell Proper Job. Loads of tables empty because of bogus reservations, I just sat at one anyway, stuff ‘em. Took against this place quite easily, sadly.

October 2006
Spacious and externally attractive Youngs boozer. Lacking on handpulls (only Special & Ordinary yesterday), but well-stocked in bottles (Oatmeal, Double Chocolate and Old Nick all present) though the Oatmeal had been in the fridge which killed the taste a bit. SKY and football available on big screen. Very expensive. It's probably the best pub in Chertsey, but that's not really saying much. Rated 6

Moby Duck left this review about The Crown

A very large Hotel bar hotel bar with several areas now opened out, unfortunately my visit coinsided with an inside street party, inside due to biffy weather I presume,
In honour of the Queens 90th birthday which entailed more than a few screaming kids and although confined to one side of the pub several of the the little blighters attained the status of escapee's, attracted by the live music playing at the other end of the pub.
Its a youngs pub with eight handpumps all in use and all youngs related beers, some doubled up, with the exception of a very acceptable guest of By The Horns Stiff Upper Lip. Aside from the absconding little people I found this place to be better than I was expecting.

We had a few minutes to wait for a bus and popped in here to see what they had. 3 real ales on and we chose Wells Youngs London Gold which was ok if a little pricey. We didn't stay inside the quiet interior but went to sit at the tables in front of the hotel.
The above was in August 2012.
Called in today and impressed with the beer choice as they had Youngs plus guests. Paid £3.90 for a half of Adnams Ghost Ship and a half of Purity Ubu. Both were in great condition. Weird idea of plates. A scotch egg was served on a thick wooden block. Presentation is one thing but prefer proper plates.

John Bonser left this review about The Crown Hotel

Occupying a prominent position on London Street in the centre of Chertsey, The Crown Hotel is an imposing 18th century former coaching inn with an impressive Tudor style brick and timber frontage.

A number of years ago, this Young's house joined the ranks of those establishments enlarged and converted into hotels and it's now got over 40 rooms. Perhaps inevitably, as part of the rebranding, the interior was given that rather loungey look that Young's seem to go for nowadays, with a mixture of sofas, high perches and more traditional seating in a number of different drinking and eating areas. There's a large outside conservatory style drinking area at the back. Disappointingly, the splendid chiming grandfather clock that I remember from earlier visits seems to have disappeared - an inevitable victim of the rebranding, no doubt.

Pleasingly, on my recent Saturday afternoon visit, the pub didn't particularly feel like a hotel bar and a few keen rugby supporters were enthusiastically watching the New Zealand v South Africa rugby international.

The Young's Ordinary - £ 3.10p - was reasonable.

I didn't particularly either like or dislike this place, to be honest

A very striking pub from the outside with it's mock timbered upper section. Inside it has been refurbished and modernized approximately three years ago now having darkish painted walls adorned with numerous black and white photos, exposed timber floor boards and some sofas dotted around. There is an upstairs dining room. A Youngs pub with the normal special and best on with Butcombe Best as a guest. well worth visiting and about 5 minutes walk from the railway station.

Excellent traditional town hotel, with pretty well all you could wish for - large drinking rooms, restaurant, outdoor area, bedrooms etc, and Youngs beer too!

Enormous town pub with hotel rooms available. Several drinking areas with a mix of high tables and stools, low tables with sofas, what happened to the old fashioned trad pub table with your pint at easy reach. Rather upmarket and I'd say aspirations of grandeur looking around the various rooms. The conservatory leads out to a rear garden terrace with a barbecue.
Youngs beers however just Ordinary Bitter, Bombardier and I suppose "guest" Courage Directors, how devilishly exciting.
An unremarkable pub in a town full of unremarkable pubs.
