Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Victoria

The car park and garden of this pub were busy on our Wednesday lunchtime arrival. A large patio area had tables made out for diners, whilst a grassy area had other tables being used by drinkers. We entered the gate from the car park and took residence at a table.

After a while, we were approached by a waitress who questioned why we had just walked in and sat at a table. Isn't that what one would normally do in a pub (apart from pre-covid times, when you'd go to the bar first). Apparently this was not in accordance with their guidelines. We should somehow have known that we should have walked around to the front of the pub to be officially registered, probably asked if we'd made a reservation, and then directed to an empty table after much tutting about whether they could squeeze us in, as seems to be the norm these days.

They eventually accepted our custom and warned us that we should follow the unpublished guidelines next time (what next time?!!). Suitably chided, I enquired about the real ale choice. This was TEA or London Pride.

Prices were on the high side, but probably typical for this area of the country. Not really a pub I would consider returning to for obvious reasons.

Opened out large roadside pub, wooden floor, normal tables, chairs and barstools plus some upholstered bench seating. three pumps with just Doom Bar available as well as Old Rosie Cider. Friendly landlord but the place was empty on a midweek afternoon.

Seems to have changed hands more often than a decimal day tuppence. When it's on form it's a nice little place, usually serving some decent real ales and worth making the time for if you're in the area. It's a big 1920's construction and is very much a locals pub. Low rating reflects the up/down nature of the place.
