I was the only customer early doors in the Kings Arms on Saturday as the governor and family set about decorating the pub for St George’s Day. A car parked on the forecourt had it doors open as the likes of Vindaloo played whilst the driver in a George Cross suit assembled some disco equipment. Sky sports is heavily advertised and there are televisions throughout. The bar serves a thin front bar and small open plan bar behind. Further to the rear is a seating area and there is a large room with a pool table and dartboard. Out the back is a beer garden that I didn’t visit.
The bar is stocked with limited standard keg and the handpump in each bar was unused. I didn’t see any food advertised, but I did spot a large bag of burger buns on the bar. Not sure if these were just for the days celebrations. I found the staff to be friendly, but this is a very basic pub with a real lack of beer choice.

Although this pub is listed as one with an interesting and historic interior, this has been spoilt somewhat by a coat of blue-grey paint. It's still got an old fashioned multi-roomed layout but my first priority was beer: I could only see one hand pump (someone has since informed me there's another in the next room). There was Bragdy Mws Piws Cwrw Eryri (or Purple Moose Brewery Snowdon Ale) on this solitary hand pump, but it had clearly been on there for a long time and was redolent of bananas rather than hops. This could be a lovely pub if it was in the hands of someone who actually likes pubs and beer.

Not a bad pub. Lots of England and St George flags adorn the pub. Real ales available.

Just outside the town center, this pub is well worth a visit, up to four real ales on, with Beartown brewery of Congleton prominent, four roomed proper pub, friendly with all the usual traditional pub games and sport on TV.
