The pub is currently closed and boarded up.
It has apparently been purchased by Paragon Inn, operators of local gastro pubs the Wayfarer at Stone, Swan with Two Nevks, Orange Tree in Newcastle and Sheet Anchor, Baldwins Gate.
Plenty of rumours about refurbishment but nothing seems to have happened for several months.

We took friends for a meal on Saturday evening just gone, and had a lovely meal. There were 9 of us, 4 adults and 5 kids - we booked earlier in the evening. At the time of booking they asked if we had children and we said yes - no reason not to. They didn't say anything else. We arrived at 6.30pm for our meal. However, at 8.20pm, the landlady came over and stated that children had to be out of the pub by 8pm, and that other people (regulars) had complained that we were still there. She would not let us order desserts (which the children were looking forward to) and asked us to leave. We had not been told that we should leave by 8pm, otherwise we would have been clock watching, and made sure we did.
Her attitude, and the way we were treated, made us feel like we had done something very wrong, when in fact they were at fault for not having advised us of their rules. We paid £180 for our meal, which was very nice, but on going back to the landlady to complain, she told us she was not interested in what we had to say. A very nice evening, as a thank you to our friends was ruined.
We won't be returning.
