One of the few pubs in the area close to Crewe station that could be considered to be "acceptable". One partially carpeted room which narrows towards the rear, tiled bar and front area where there was a busy pool table. A piano is on a side wall. Minimal seating but the presence of huge speakers suggested to me that this may be a music venue later. There is a token bit of Crewe Alex memorabilia. Banded leaded windows had unusual pig featured glazed inserts, I understand the pub is also known as "The Pig", but no idea why. Lots of TVs showing the 6N rugby but also with a rather loud jukey playing, I had to change seats twice to avoid the speakers.
Joule's beers these days, two on, Blonde and Slumbering Monk which was fine (£3.10).
No indications of food however in a road of every other door being a takeaway or restaurant why try to compete? Crewe really is poor for pubs, this one just about floats above the waterline.

The British Lion, known locally as the Pig. Now has a new manager, and he seems keen to make a go of it. At the time of visit, there was Tetley Bitter, Tetley Dark Mild, Shepherd Neame Spitfire, and Wells Bombardier, the manager wants to rotate guest beers. One to keep an eye on.

Until quite recently this was the jewel in the crown along Nantwich road, sadly it seems to have gone down hill quickly, the long serving licencees have been replaced by a temp and the pub is suffering. Lets hope it picks up soon. Three real handpumps were still on, Tetley (now brewed in the midlands)mild and bitter, and a guest ale, quality is a little down, and I am getting reports of the beer not being available on some occasions, this is no way to run a pub. The pub is up for sale.

We visited thhis pub one evening in december as we had an hours wait for our next train at Crewe station. Most of the pubs between this pub and the station have generally lcosed or have been turned into 'fun pub'. However this pub seemed to still have a good local clientel and had a two or three ales on including Tetley dark Mild which was well kept. Definitely one to remember when next in Crewe.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The British Lion

Simply-furnished pub, with a friendly landlady and a decent pint of cask Tetleys. Good place to stop if changing trains at Crewe station (about 5 minutes walk).

A great little pub once known as the Pig and the locals still call it by that name, the name derives from the time many years ago when an escaped pig ran through the bar the staff and customers still take in little pig ornaments to put behind the bar, very nice well kept beer very clean and tidy with friendly staff and customers.highly recommended .

Nice little pub about a 5 minute walk from Crewe station so perfect for that pint between trains! Always a good pint of Tetley Dark with and a range of guest ales
