Nice canal side pub which has been well described below. A lot of tables reserved in the lounge / conservatory which shows the place is popular. Nice beer garden right by the canal for better weather.
A decent choice of beers with Courage best bitter, Hobgoblin, 61 Deep, Ringwood Old Thumper, Brakspear Gravity and Wainwright Altitude. I went for the latter which was fine. A decent pub and glad I called in.

Enjoyed our visit to this 2014 Good Beer Guide pub on Tuesday. There were a few beers available from Marston's brewery and we chose Jennings Knight Porter and Ringwood Boondoggle. Before leaving we also had the Jennings Cumberland which I found to be the best one on the day. The pub has been well described below, and we found it to be a friendly place to pop into for a drink.

Situated along side the Coventry Canal,as you enter this Marston's tied house you get the impression it is mainly an eatery.Indeed the lounge on two levels, each with their own bar access,is full of dining tables and a conservatory extension leading to a sizeable beer garden. However if you walk through the lounge to the loos you will discover the bar, which is completely seperate with it's own counter and is the haunt of the regulars. It's an L shaped room with a darts board, fireplace, flatscreen(off),wooden furniture and lots of banter,a good place to sink pints. There is a door giving access to a small canalside terrace, mainly for smokers and this would be another way into the bar from the garden,or the pub moorings.
The pub has been elevated to the 2014 GBG,and rightly so on the basis of my Jennings Cockerhoop,£2.84.The other options were Pedigree,Oxford Gold and seasonal Howling Wolf.Four handpumps in the lounge were badged up with "available soon" clips for four more ales, several seasonal specials but I took this display as indicative of what might me on in the next fortnight, rather than next session.
The food is from a standard menu ,and on my midweek evening trip most folk in the lounge were also just drinking.Quiz night on Tuesdays.
I enjoyed my visit ,this is probably the best canalside pub for miles around and it ticks many of the right boxes.I will pay another visit when next in Amington.

Thank you Bucking Fastard for your kind words. I can assure you, however that the available soon pump clips do actually mean just that ;-) Over the course of a weekend we sell about 8 x 9 gallons of cask (excluding Pedigree) and always have a choice of 6 ales available Friday to Sunday, reverting back to 4 during the week. Today, for example, we have Pedigree, Shipyard Double Thumper, 5% abv, Wychwood Hobgoblin, Jennings Knight Porter, Brakspear Oxford Gold and Jennings Cumberland. We look forward to your re-visit. Oops, Oxford Gold has just sold out, so Ringwood Boondoggle is on instead.

Good selection of cask ales from the W&D portfolio, regularly changed, well kept and reasonably priced. The place is desperately in need of refurbishment, if they want to retain customers and even attract new ones from the passing canal trade. Menu looks OK but be prepared for poor qualty and presentation

Canal side pub. Very tidy pub. Two roomed, One for diners and other for regulars. Normally sells two real ales on sale (One seems always sell is Marston's Old Empire)Beware cos it can be diffcult to find as it is tucked away in busy housing estate
