I've been in the Swan on a number of visits over the last four years and glad to report that there has been a significant improvement in the last 12 months. The large ale selection,9 handpumps, is now well balanced over a number of beer styles and there is a commitment to the CAMRA LocAle initiative with many local micro offerings. The Lymestone brewery features on three handpumps ,all excellent and smart move to have Dark Star brews available, this brewery rarely disappoints. However it would be helpful if the chalk board beer menu could be kept up to date. The piped commercial radio has been replaced by low volume folk music much more in keeping with the surroundings. There is a large lounge to the left of the entrance ,some seating opposite the bar and further seating tucked around the right hand side of the pub.Reasonable sized beer garden at the back.Variety of entertainment most evenings of the week adds to the community feel and food available at lunchtime.Close to the Trent and Mersey Canal, this is a must visit together with The Royal Exchange at the other end of the town. The local inhabitants are very fortunate to have pubs of such high quality.

A comfortable and friendly boozer with a wide range of ales and regular events keeping the place busy. There seems to be something on most days here from bands to quizzes and a free Sunday lunch buffet. Eight ales were on when I visited across a range of strengths and styles including 3 from the local Lymestone brewery of which the excellent Ein Stein deserves a mention, Joules Old Priory which is a regular and Blythe's Palmer's Poison. There were also beers from further afield in Dark Star's Festival and Doctor Morton's Djinn Jar Beer. The only issue is deciding what to drink as the barmaid is bit vague and the chalk board detailing the choice isn't up to date. Nonetheless well worth a visit and The Swan certainly seems to have focused on getting its beer choice right in the light of increasing competition. Much improved selection from my previous visit.

A large former 18th century? warehouse, in unrendered brick with green paintwork.

The interior is open plan, though there are three areas, a bar area and a loungey type area at either end. The decor is white, with wood panel and ceiling and support beams. A beer mat collection covers large parts of the walls and ceiling, but there are also old photos and other pictures and a couple of nice fireplaces. The service was good, the clientele mixed and it was busy.

Beer; tap stuff, with 9 real ale handpulls. All that i had were very well kept and decent; RCH Brewery's PG Steam and Double Header. Also had a nice pint of Black Hole Bitter, from the Black Hole Brewery.

A quality pub and the one i usually visit first when in Stone. A must.
